| I found putting the external speaker right in front of me helped hear the converstion while under throttle without it being so loud, the speaker on the unit is a lot louder than I thought it would be but mine was mounted to the side of me so it was blocked by me helment. | |

| I have a Motorola GP300 16 ch UHF Handheld radio. I have the same frequencies programmed in mine except I just used the first 16 channels. These frequencies are the FRS (Family radio service) and GMRS (General mobile radio service). Mine works great, I just hang it from the ceiling of the RZR with the speaker mic clipped to my helmet strap. The rubber duck antenna works well, but an external antenna will have to have more range, but for my kind of riding, I haven't needed any extra range. The mobiles and handhelds can be purchased on EBAY already programmed for you very reasonable...MD | |

| Thanks. I have the equipment and know a bit about them, however there is a little more to it than just frequency as you can stack several tones (or privacy codes) onto a single frequency which can almost be considered channel splitting. An example is FRS uses the #1 or 67Mhz tone usually. I'll program it a few different ways for most common use. | |

| bigwahoo, that is correct, I was just sharing information of another way one can make a radio work for them. I also keep two or three of the small factory mobile FRS radios in the plastic tote for others who forget theirs...MD | |

| Probably won't make it until the middle of October. Labor Day weekend is also a special weekend for Amateur Radio with the Shelby Hamfest that same weekend. I am a ham operator and already made plans to attend with another rider and ham operator friend. Keeter and Big G have twisted my arm almost out of joint, but can't make it. BUT, Y'all ride safe and have a bunch of rider fun...MD | |

My 800 replied,Yep I very familiar with and about PL sub-audible tones and encoding and decoding. Our ham radio repeaters use the same concept as you probably already know. Maybe I can plan a trip up to the Hilltop/Ashland area a weekend in September and ride with some of the members. I work at the South Carolina Fire Academy as a curriculum writer and have been working on a huge project, but it is in the short rows now and I will have more time for the spur of the moment rides...MD | |
