| Has anyone tried/succeeded in making their UTV street legal? I am just starting the process and the 2 calls that I have made so far, no one knows if it is possible or now. All laws that I have been able to find only say ATVs can't be made street legal, nothing about UTVs at all in the KRS... I am on hold again right now at the sheriffs office.
My thoughts is that I should be able to register it as a dune buggy since I do have a cage, seat bealt, and radial tires. I can get a safety glass windshield too if need be.
Any tips?
Wish me luck.
BTW...This will be for KY so if I succeed I will post the way to get it done.

| I have no idea hobbz.
I would call Polaris direct and ask them. I have noticed turn signal kits and horns for the RZR that Polaris is now selling for the RZR. That tells me that it COULD be made street legal. I think it could be made street legal in other countries. The USA probably would deny it but I dont know. Its worth a shot.
Polaris deals with stuff like this when they make a machine and its worth calling them.
Good Luck! |

| Some places are allowing 4 wheelers and sxs's to be street driven usually requiring turn signals brake lights horn and a windshield with wipers. Good Luck!!! | |

| I don't now how we would get a registered without a title. Also, i believe dune buggies use old vw titles so they can get around some of the safety equipment required for newer vechicles. | |

| looking on the ky websites.
To register a home build dune you need: safety glass windshield w/wiper horn headlights taillights or reflector turn signals brake lights seatbelts
I called a dune company in ky and he helped me quite a bit. He said go to the clerks office and get the papers to get a vin issued for a dune buggy. You get a list of stuff required and then you take you buggy to the sheriff and get him to inspect it and sign off on all the required stuff. You then mail in your paperwork and (hopefully) get issued a KY VIN, and get a new title as well. then you go register and license it...
I am going to go the the clerks office monday and get the forms and order the horn and turn signal kit from ebay.
I know in about 6 or 8 other stated that people have successfully registered them and are allowed to ride them on the streets legally.
Kentucky hasn't decided to address SXS or UTVs in any bill to date so it is a huge gray area right now. I feel the longer I wait the less chance I have.
Maybe I will be the first to get one registered and start a trend.
Mastiff, as far as the title goes, I have one with mine. KY started using titles for atvs and utvs again about 6 months ago because of theft.

| Belive NC has a homemade Vehicle clause ( dune buggys etc ) that the RZR would fall into , but would probably have he same ad on's , windshield , wiper , signals , horn , insurance . You would give up the Polaris certificate of orgin for a homemade Vehicle title . Maybe Bush would know the law on Farm use and UTV ..... | |
