| I believe your talking about the meadow river train bed. You can go in through Hico at Sunday road and a few other places in fayette county. However there is a train trestle down below where gauley river and meadow river intersect that has been shut down to ATV traffic. They converted that trestle into a pedestrian walking bridge. You could actually fit a 4 wheeler or a standard width rzr through it but thats a no, no. And i actually believe from what i've read that they are planning on turning the ENTIRE train bed into a rails - to-trails type of place. What a waste in my opinion. But anyhow, that train bed does take you all the way down to swiss. I plan on going down into swiss and coming back up it from the opposite direction just to see how far you can get coming that way. That same trail bed also takes you up into Nallen. There is also a place along the train bed that you can actually cross over the Gauley River when the water is low, which puts you on the nicholas county side of gauley river and there are many miles of trails down that side too. And you should be able to get all the way down through Panther mountain that way. Which of course if you can get there then swiss should be no problem. Once at swiss you can cross Rt. 39 and head over into 20 mile creek and from there all the way up into peach orchard in nicholas county and even over into clay county. Geez, i wanna ride!! | |

| I always go in from Rt.19 on Arrowwood Creek Rd. I park and unload right there in the widespot just off Rt.19 and follow the hard road about 2 miles and cut down through the woods to the edge of meadow river right onto the train bed. If you just stay on the train bed as far as you can and turn around to drive straight back to your vehicle , its about a 45 mile round trip. But like i said before, if you go down there when the weather has been dry for a while and the river is low, there is a spot where you can actually cross the Gauley river bed, across the rocks and get onto the opposite side (Nicholas County side). Once you do that, it opens you up to many, many miles of riding. And i do mean many miles. Now if you go the opposite direction , away from Gauley River on the fayette county side, you can follow the train bed right thru and underneath meadow river bridge on Rt.19 and follow that all the way up into Nallen at the county line. Once there, you can go up Rt.41 just a couple of miles and get into the area of Sugar Grove. Once there , that opens you up to a whole bunch more riding that can lead you all the way up into Greenbrier County to where the windmills are on top of .........uh, can't remember the name of the mountain, maybe cold knob or something like that. That is a very long ride. We'll have to hook up some time and go ride it. Now there is also a trail that you can get on on the Nicholas county side of Meadow River Bridge that travels along the meadow river and gauley river. It takes you right by the soldiers grave. When you start off on this trail, you don't have to cross the river anywhere. One of the most beatiful and scenic trails i've ever ridden. There are all kinds of places to pull off along the rivers and camp. Love it down there! Who is your cousin that lives in Hico? I may know her. I graduated from Midland Trail High School in 85 and was raised all my life in these areas. My mother lives in Ansted,WV. which is only5-7 miles from there in Hico. My name is Kevin Harrah. | |

| I need to have a chance to go down there and check on some areas down there to make sure we can still get through a couple of places. Just talked to my step-brother a little bit ago and we are gonna try to go on a recon ride down there to see if its all good still. I kept hearing that this train bed was gonna be converted into a rails-to-trails where no atv are aloud but i don't THINK that it has taken place yet. We will check on it and then report our findings back to you guys just as soon as possible. My step -brother lives about 2 miles from it all. | |
