| Last night on the way back from 5 points I lost another tie down. I drove over the roughest road there is, then stopped to check them out and everything was tight. I got up this morning and the rzr was on the trailer with no strap on the rear. No more open hook tie downs for me. I always liked the Mac's straps, but the price was to high. I just ordered the Summit brand from Summit racing for $30 for the pair. The hooks have the spring loaded latch on them so they won't come undone if you hit the big hole in the road.

| Dang hump! Sounds like someone needed a strap and took one in the middle of the night!

It did seem wierd that it was still on there after the rough road, but gone this morning. There was only a place or two I could have lost it, but the closer to home, the faster I drove (I know the road). I think it just came undone. I've lost alot of the open hook tie downs in the past. | |

| how and where do you hook them, I and a few others go over the tires only. that way they dont have any suspension give if you hit rough road. we trailer about 320 miles at a time | |

| Good thing it was only a strap that was lost! Good point on the spring loaded hooks! | |

| I went through 2 straps hauling my new ride home the day I picked it up. I think the trailer was fraying the straps from the way I had it hooked. Luckily the front strap never broke. Once I get my own trailer, I will have designated O rings attached to where the strap will not come in contact with anything. And strapping over the tires is a great idea too, to keep the friction down. | |

| Hump,
One thing I do and take it for what its worth, but I always put the short strap end thats near the heavy ratchet end and attach it at the machine. The long strap with a hook, I always hook to the trailer. That way if a strap does come undone then the weight of the ratchet will keep it hanging onto the machine. With doing this I have NEVER lost a strap and I have had a few come undone. |

| I used to make it a habit to tie the part you pull back to the machine .. that what if it does come loose there it stays, plus there was no slack for it to pull back thru the ratchet ... Also just recently I learned ( ok yesterday ) that I was not putting enough rounds on the ratchet before it got it tight , I would pull it tight and ratchet ... Year s ago I went and looked at a trailer and came across a fell that had made his own set up to hold his bike in ... His Harley had what basicly looked like a V shape underneath , as he came into his trailer he push a button on the wall and this medium threaed shaft screwed up from the floor , he drove his harley against it and pushed the button the other way and it pulled the bike down eavenly front and rear , no straps ... When he was ready to head out , he would get on , push the button up to let the bolt in the floor come up ( about a 1 to 1 1/2 bolt ) till the bike was free , roll back a few inches and push the button and the bolt went even with the floor ... this bolt turned as it went up and down so I assumed there was a matching nut welded in the floor .. I did not buy the trailer but would have worked great loading the RZR up ... Great thing , no straps .. | |

| I would recommend putting down a few pieces of EZ-Track or just put some D rings in front and behind where tires set on the trailer. I have been strapping mine down over the tires like they haul cars. This way there is NO stress on the suspension...... | |

| I strap over the tires too. I also cross the strap from left to right & right to left. Works very well. Never had a strap come loose nor lost one. | |

| After reading all these posts, I've figured out that I'm an idiot when it comes to tieing something down. Thanks for all the info. I will strap down by the tires now. I have tied down through the lower part of the bumpers with one strap at each end real tight. I never liked that due to the stress on the springs, and the bouncing. I haven't lost a strap in about a year, so I thought it was ok.
I got a plan now. | |
