| Hump, when we are at our cabin in Monterville. We are only 10 minutes away from the Elk River. Is it legal to ride all the way to Bergoo down the road that follows the river past Whitaker Falls to Bergoo? Have you road between Monterville and Pickens up on Turkeybone Road? We have fished there for years but never have taken our sxs, or atvs with us. We see people riding everywhere but was just wondering. We usually fish Shavers Fork now since the Elk has gotten so crowded. Thanks. | |

Everyone rides down Bergoo road. You will not get in any trouble. There is more atv/sxs traffic than cars/trucks. I've only been through Turkeybone one time, and that was over 10 years ago. I would be lost if I were to go up there. Wv law says you can ride along the side of a double line road for 10 miles to get to another trail, and I'm sure if there is no lines on it, you are good to go as far as you need anywhere, unless you are in a town that has it's own laws against it. I'm sure Monterville, and Bergoo is not concerned.

| Hey Dustytrac, I just rode from Pickens to Bergoo last weekend to meet Hump and ride. It is excellent dirt road through there. One small stretch through Kumbrabo State forest though. I'm not sure if it is legal to ride through a state forest. It is 43 miles from Selbyville, through Pickens across Turkeybone, through Monterville to Bergoo. I followed my gps and when I got to 15 I took a left onto the double line road for about 1/2 mile and then onto a dirt road on the right that took me right down onto the elk river. It took about an hour and 15 minutes to get there from my house in Selbyville. | |

| Thanks mrwvsportsman. You rode right by our camp. We are the last camps before the state forest coming in from the Monterville side. It is a 3hr15 minute drive to our camp from home here. That is why we were wanting some info before hauling that far to ride up there. We should plan a ride sometime this summer. I know where the fire department is in Selbyville. I have fished there before. | |

| there is also trails along the river if you didnt want to ride all the way to bergoo one trail is beside or across from the concrete bridge(do not cross the bridge) above the falls.. its a tough steep trail but once you get on top you can explore.(#4) no matter what if you go up the mountain you will run into 15 or if u come off the mountain you will run into the river. easy not to get lost. or below the falls is the wooden bridge(big run) you can explore that area also and find nice trails. you can make a loop around and come down (#5) they are tight but my teryx has no trouble pay attention to where u are relative to the river and you shouldnt get lost. ive been riding that area around 20 years. we have a camp in elk springs camp ground. i like to adventure to leather wood and ride also its alot bigger country down there. ive always rode sensible and have had no trouble with the law. | |

I think he's talking about the trails that are between there and where we have rode. The trails to the left at the bridge by Carol's store go up to the top of point mt. on rt 15. You can make a pretty nice loop around there. I have avoided it for some time due to logging going on. When they are done, there should be some good riding. Anything farther upstream from that I am unfamilliar with.

| if you ride across the concrete bridge that is a 1/8 up stream from whitaker falls (this is where the catch and release starts) then you will run into the national forest. there is little riding on that side of the river in that area due to the national forest and the fire road on top. on the opposite side of the road is where i was referring to. i know where hump is referring to i havn't been in that area riding for years. the trails i am talking about are up river probably another 5 miles from carols store. we just rode leatherwood this past weekend, i havn't spent alot of time that far down river riding i always rode where i was comfortable with knowing. but i discovered some new trails and i am going to spend some more time down there exploring. hopefully one day we can hook up and share our knowledge of the area. | |

Yeah, we need to get together and ride. Sounds like I ride where you don't, and you ride where I don't.
