Hey guys just a FYI, I ride bergoo area multiple times per year and plan on attending the bergoo bash this year and just got a tip that one of the local DNR officers is going to be a real prick over the labor day weekend. He's planning on ticketing for people under the age of 18 with no helmets, inforcing and ticketing for traveling on the black top and alcohol violations and also national forest trespassing. I know most of you are not doing the ride but figured I give you a heads up as he will be working 24/7 this weekend and has a major hard on for atv/utv. Be safe and keep your eyes open. And trust me this is a very very solid source I got this from.

Hump, Will helmets be neccessary for this ride? What other articles should we bring? We will be coming from the Mt.Storm, Wv area. Should be there around 10 am. That should give us plenty of time to figure out where your meeting.

Sounds like helmets are just for riders under 18 years old.

That was what I was told and it sounds like non lined roads will be where he is stopping people that look under 18 and anyone on a lined road also. Just tryn to keep everyone out of trouble. Not sure where u guys are riding but I know he will focus on bergoo store area and back towards Webster springs on the lined road and then also bergoo towards carols store and elk springs resort. Local police have given the blessing as this is a fundraiser for the vfd and will only be enforcing these laws when obvious stupidity is taking place. We r riding the bash then bergoo crick and back around red oak then over thru old church camp, by the crosses. Hopefully well pass some you guys along the way.

I have heard in the past of people being ticketed for having small children not buckled up in a sxs and not having helmets. I have heard that the DNR has purchased 3 teryx. I think one of the big things with that is to watch the bear hunters in the area that those Chevy Trailblazers and Durangos don't have a chance of getting where the Toyotas can go. I do see where they would be interested in patroling Bergoo on holiday weekends to try to keep everyone safe. Holiday weekends are bad for fatalitys over there. Lots of kids riding then, and they need to be watched out for.

I call BS on the stopping people for being on the marked two lane roads. The state law says you can ride up to 10 miles to get from trail to trail. I don't thing they will harrass anyone, or "look for a reason". I do think they will watch for people acting stupid around others and do something about it. I think that is a good thing.

All I'm sayn is I can be to trail within 2 miles of lined black top riding from where I camp and I'll be trailering to the trAils this guys no joke. Ive rode from where we stay for over 18 yeas with never a issue but not chancing it this time Trust me this is info from very very reliable source, actually two sources one with similar authority and one that's way above DNR on the food chain. Just tryn to keep $$$ in our wallets not theirs. Agree lots of fatalities out that way. It's not anyone other than this one DNR guy, state police and sheriff are not looking to even be anywhere close to bergoo unless called. Have fun safe weekend guys

First, let me say that I am not trying to attack you personally for your post in any way. I understand that you do not want to get into trouble, and none of us do. And, thanks for the warning.

But, there is no way you should trailer your ride to the trails if you are within 10 miles of them unless you just want to save tread. The law is the law, and the "guy who's gonna be a prick" cannot make up his own laws and harrass people. If he does, he will no longer be employed by the state.

I don't think you should change your habits because of what you heard about this guy. Most of what you heard is either from someone who gets drunk as hell, or does drugs while they ride, and drives like a total idiot on paved road. Or, your "reliable source" is someone who does not think we should have the right to ride.

The law is the law. If you appear to be obeying the law, and don't attract attention to yourself, you will have nothing to worry about. I guarantee he is after the bad apples, and he will get them.

I do have a copy of the WV code on atv use in my glovebox, and I will use it if harrassed. Anyone with a badge who tickets someone for doing something that is lawful is a criminal, and will be treated as such if we push the issue.

I think this guy has been made a big deal out of for nothing.

Bottom line...It's a stock Teryx, the hot rod 450 has got that shit!
