I don't know what you didn't like about the Horns, but just remember, everything is a tradeoff. What one tire does better than another, the other will kill it at something else. Driving style is as important as the trails when it comes to picking the right tire.
Most every tire that offers bad ass traction wears really quick, so keep that in mind.
If you didn't like the traction of the Horns, I would stay away from any tire that looks like them.

I rode the reptiles all over WV for two years without a problem. Bobby said his wore fast. Mine did not. I will buy another set when I get the money. tirepackage.com had them for $338 shipped and I missed the sale. :(

how about trying those tires that look like the big horns? Who makes them? GBC? I forget but we discussed them here once and I saw them in one of my utv magazines.

I wonder if they would be a good alternative. I like big horns personally. I was maybe thinking about trying Kenda's like Benny T has and see if they are a good tire.

Tbone I think you are talking about the Dirt Commanders, I rum them on my Grizzly and they look like BH's and are very durable and wear very little. I run the reptiles on my RZR and the roads eat up them a little fast but I love the way they preform on the trails in WV.

that's a good looking tire, Keeter, and 8 ply also. What you say about the roads eating the reptiles may be why mine lasted so long, I avoid asphalt like the plague. I know the trips these guys on this forum take, that is unavoidable.

I am not a big horn fan & is the look like a BH they prob are. I have pit bull growlers love them. 900 miles on them and very little wear. And that is because of blacktop. Had them on my 09 also. Con's bit pricey & a little heavy but all big 8 plys are. ATV outfitters hooked me up.

I like my terra cross most of the time til like friidays ride of the spring ride they did alright but i had to go to 4x4 a few times when i know others were in 2 wheel. I didnt like how the b.h.s pushed in the frontend on my 800.. the gbc dirt commander is kinda like a terra cross but 8 ply run it on my 800 with decent luck but they do run short n a lil heavy.....

I've had Big Horns, Big Horns 2.0, ITP Bajacross and now Sedona Ripsaws. Big Horns are still my favorite. The Sedona Ripsaws are about $100 less for a set versus the B.H. and Bajacross. The ripsaws have got gobs of grip and are pretty narly looking, but they are extremely heavy and have some wobble at high speed versus the B.H. and Bajacross. Like I say Big Horns seem more ideal for WV terrain. Personnally I think anything other than an all out mud tire is good.

I guess all of my tires wear quicker than most people since I usually ride 3,000 miles are more per year. lol!

I have put over 4,000 miles on my RZR S in 14.5 months so I go through some tires

You are right but they are not radials so you won't have as good as ride & traction

Seems that the pitbulls are developing as big a following as the horns. The horns being a 6 ply radial back when that was rare made them a great tire. I like the pb's but as you say, the cost and the weight put them out of my reach for my little 570.

I will put dirt commanders on my 800 again...i have found nails "u" shaped that i run over and they didnt puncture...got a lot of miles on mine.....my tire pressure guage only goes down to 5 pounds and usually have all 4 of them low enough it doesnt even show pressure..

my 2 cents, just as already mentioned type of riding and rider influence decisions and outcomes. I will rank what i have owned sinece sxs riding excluding ATVing.
1PitBulll Rocker, 2PitBull Growler, 3 ITP Baja 8ply, Big Horn Radial 6ply, not the 2.0 Radial; 4 ply lightweight
4. BlackWater Evo / ITP, Narrow Footprint, Not True Diam/Short Tire Heavy, but treading is agressive but did not bite to my prefereance, rode them onece, sold.
sold my Kenda HTRs before i had a chance to ride them as pit bull rockers kick sum azz....
30 inch Roctane to be riden if I ever get my freakin ride.....

Pitbulls are an awesome tire! Before I purchased mine I followed several other members who were running them and I saw all I needed to see. I bought the Rockers and they are a digging machine. Some guys like to complain about the weight but unless you're racing traction and durabilty are more important. They hook up so good when I mash the gas that I highly doubt a lighter tire with less traction would be any quicker out of the hole.

The only downfall is the price. Shocked If the Pitbull tires were not any better people would not be buying them at those prices though!!

Gabe had a set of reptiles on his grizzly and they wore well. I love em. For our kinda riding I think they are really really good. He put a set on his canned ham renegade 1000 xxc or what ever that 88 hp quad is.

I have run the Kenda Bearclaw HTR's and that is an awesome tire! 8 ply and mine are 14's with no sidewall punctures and I have hammered them in some rough stuff!
