| Lets talk tv's I'm about ready to replace my 13 year old Hitachi 50" rear projection big screen.I was going to get a LCD but there are some killer deals on the Plasma sets right now.I did some research LCD vs Plasma and the Plasma sounds better than I thought I guess there is some wrong info out about Plasma sets from what I have always thought about Plasma tv's.I think I will buy a 50" Plasma for now and maybe if things turn around I will get another set near the end of the year and go with a 55" LCD or Plasma and move one to the family room in the basement So does have any or lets here what you got and how you like it or what you would buy if buying a new TV | |

| I would go with LCD. They say if something goes wrong with the Plasma it can not be fixed. |

| I went with LCD at home too, plasma has come a long way but still has some issues. If you are getting it for significantly less than the LCD go for it, they are nice the LCD just has a few nicer features. Where its at right now with TV's is the LED's but they cost more.
You really can't go wrong with either these days, let price decide.

| LCD. You get a lot of reflections on plasma screens (glass). If you go so far as having the screen calibrated, LCD is one time, plasma may be more. | |

| I have a friend who owns a tv repair store he said the plasmas are good for about 5 years. I went with LCD myself after he told me that. |

| I bought a new Panasonic Plasma about 2 yrs ago and I really like it. I paid around $2 K for it with the extended warr. and no problems. Now the same Plasma is around $1200 it is 51" the picture is GREAT!!! especially in HD or Blue Ray. But on the other hand those new LCD and the LED's the picture is awsome!! so it would be a hard decison if I had to buy another. So mabye this helps. Anthony | |

| I just bought a 65" Plasma Viera for $2,399.99 over Christmas. Most all recent reseach leans towards a plasma especially for sports and fast action. For gamers the LCD or new LED is the bomb. It's what I wanted so I'm happy. | |

| Not sure if it's true or not but I've been told that plasma's use 3 to 5 times as much energy as the same size led or lcd? You guys that have them hear anything about that?? |

Bobby,if you have a HH Gregg anywhere, they have a deal on a 50 inch LG plasma for $699 this weekend. Also, how you like your CROW cooked!!!

| Even at 720p you'd see an unbelievable difference in your picture if you got HDTV. You'll notice a lot of broadcasts don't go over 720p anyway. I stumbled on a Visio 50" plasma 2 years ago for $750 on a manager's special at Walmart. I was kinda leary as it was one of Visio's first models but I have to say I'm happy with it. I thought at that time it was worth the risk since it was almost half of what I was looking at. I almost bought two..hahah. Anyway, get a good reputable brand and go with what's cheaper. Get HDTV and good cables and you'll be tickled. | |

| Panasonic Plasma -- preferably the 1080p S or G series. Really does not matter -- all Panasonic Plasma's have a good picture. There is no better picture than a nice Plasma. I have a Vizio 50" made with Panasonic Glass (purchased it in 2005) and it still gets the most comments of "great picture!" from friends and relatives. Pioneer made better Plasmas but they are history. I have Plasma and LCD TV's and the Plasma's are better. Plasma advantage: Darker Blacks Faster Action Pics Greater Contrast Ratio Better Viewing angle clearness LCD Advantage: Lighter Brighter Screen Capability Lower Energy Use (100W or less vs 200 watt on new Plasmas) I watch lots of movies and HD action shows and the Plasma is just better picture. My Vizio is a power hog at 380 watts but it is crystal clear with a very dark black and bright whites. Also at a 60,000 hr 1/2 life (1/2 life is point of 1/2 brightness) it will way outlast my need for it. The newest Plasmas have a 100,000+ hr 1/2 life so they will outlast almost any TV! Go to AVSforums if you want more opinions. There are 100's of threads and the plasma almost always wins. Don't get me wrong -- the LCD's are getting better but if you are going 42" or larger and are not concerned about power the plasma will give you a better picture. As a warning stick with Panasonic, Samsung, Vizio (most models if available), or Pioneer (the best but few left) Plasma's. The very low cost one's I would avoid -- same goes for LCD. http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=17946531 | |

| Call Dish Network -- you need the HD package and a receiver with HDMI output. You want the Dish ViP722 DVR -- You will need to install it so that TV1 hooks to the Plasma via HDMI. You can then have them hook TV2 via coax to any other TV that is not HD. If you do not have a DVR you will love it -- watch TV on your time. You can also get the non-DVR 222 if you just want a receiver.
The standard boxes do not have HDMI since they do not offer HD output. Also the standard boxes do not pick up the HD channels and will output in a 4x3 format that does not really fit the widescreen Plasma.
You picked a great TV Bobby! That Panasonic should be good for at least the next 10 years assuming you do not throw something at it when your favorite team loses....

| Bobby, when you call dish, makes sure they give you the equipment for free or tell them you are going to cancel and go with directv. HD is $10 a month and I think they charge you a lease fee on the 2nd HD receiver....which sucks! Dont think there is a way to avoid these fees. | |
