| I wanted to ask you guys what a good pistol would be good to buy for someone new to it. I'm wanting to have a gun in my house. I have always been scared of guns and have never felt any situation needed one. I don't live in a bad area but would like to have a gun just in case. I really like the glock and want one. Our family has tons of guns but I have always strayed away from them. I have never shot one nor been near one live. Suggestions and pics would be appreciated. It's time for t bone to buy a gun.
Thanks guys! |

| Tolliver, to be honest the BEST home protection gun in my opinion is a shotgun. As for a pistol with little to no expierience I would suggest you try to shoot several to figure out which one fits you the best. There isn't an easy answer to your question. Its like SXS's, everyone likes something different. There isn't a one size fits all. For ease of use consider a revolver. They are reliable and simple. Hell on the next ride just bring a box of ammo for 9mm, .40 and .45 and I bet you will be able to shoot a bunch of different brands and sizes. | |

| Well I'm going to get married and have kids so I don't want them near a big gun. Out of all I have seen I really like that glock. I have never ever shot a gun though. Heck if it gets bad I'll just give Jen to the burglar. |

| Calibers , you can rent many guns , revolvers and semis , you will know as soon as you put it in you hand and shoot it , It will feel like a extention of you hand . I shot many guns over the years thru a frend ... Then i shot another friends gun and found my perfect match .. A glock 23 or a 19 ..... | |

| T-Bone this is your best bet for home protection! If you want to carry I suggest a 9mm or a 40cal Glock model 21!!! But for home defense you can't beat a 12 guage home defender!!! I also suggest that you get your concealed carry permit if you want to carry a handgun! Just taking the coarse answers alot of questions you will have! | |

| Let your wallet be your guide!!!! I have a Glock 27 and can hit a bowling pin about 4 out of 10 shots @75 yards. You can drop a Glock on the concrete and it won't go off, and you can drop it in the water and it will still fire. It will even fire while under water, but you shouldn't do it. I really am wanting a Ruger 9mm SR9c. With all of your money, you might not worry about cost, but us poor folk gotta pinch pennys!!!lol A 9mm is a lot cheaper to shot than a 40s+w which I have. Also, a 9mm won't jump and kick like a 40. I would stay away from a 380, as in the winter when people wear a lot of clothes, a 380 might not make it through all of the clothes. And what ever you get, learn the safe way to handle and shot it. And also learn the proper way to clean and oil it. You also need to get some Plus P ammo for personal protection and shoot some of it after you get comphy with regular target ammo, as the Plus P loads will sure feel different to you, so you want to be used to it if you ever have the bad luck to really need it!!! | |

| from a gun shop owner. you will be hard pressed to beat a glock. there isnt a gun made thats more reliable.
in all reality a .40 cal is the best all around caliber. its got the the speed of a 9mm, and most of the knock down power of a .45
pick you up a glock 23 for a mid size, or a 27 for the sub compact. and it will last you a life time.

| Tolliver, Calibers near the airport is a good range and you can take the cc class there. I will even let you borrow my Glock 23 (.40 caliber) and my Glock 19 (9mm) to take with you along with a few others if you want.
I mostly carry a Glock just because it is reliable, always will go bang when you want. Its very easy to clean also. There are some Glock haters out there but its a GREAT gun that I do trust my life to.

| If you had a gun, when it got right down to it, could you point it at some one and try to shoot them?? A very hard decision to make, quiet often with little time to do it. What if it was the next door neighbor or a 15 year old kid?? Most people would claim that they could, but.... Something to consider.
Having said that, it is my opinion that every law abiding citizen should have a gun and be qualified in it's use.

| True and ur right. It's a hard decision. I would probably shoot and do a warning shot. If that didn't work then I'm going to stuff him in a spam can.
Groundhog I would like to have it and NEVER need it than to need it and not have it. |

| For home safety and less worry with kids I like a semi-automatic pistol and to store it without one in the chamber. No Young kid (10 yrs and below) is gonna pick up a semi-auto and put one in the chamber unless they are very familar with guns. Now with a revolver stay away -- it's just repetitively pulling the trigger.
I have several shotguns and pistols. For looks I like my Sig .45. For lots of noise I like my Taurus Raging Bull with a .454 Casull shell. For carrying and my general protection I like my compact Keltec P9 .380 with Crimson Trace Laser sight. The Keltec fits in my pocket like a wallet, fires reliably, and offers great accuracy with the Crimson Trace. I also like that no kid will easily fire it if left without one in the chamber. Baby the gun and it will jam. Treat the slide rough and it fires 100% of the tire...
Big Guns are fun to look at but carrying them is a pain... Just my $.02. Besides with the laser sight most people will pause when they know exactly where you are aiming. It also will make you feel better knowing also!
As for Glocks -- great guns. I 100% agree with that.

| T-bone glocks are hard to beat. 40 cal for sure. Don't ever leave it where a kid can even touch it. Also one bullet in you top left pocket at all times. Take a shooting class or start shooting with friends, However learn how to use a gun. | |

| guys come on. the man is not wanting a 1000 dollar compitition 1911. here in wv the mid size glock 23 runs $539-$589 new. all depending on certain options. if you find used ones, they normally run in the low-mid 400's all depending on shape, what generation, and options. you being from NC have to buy your handguns in NC. other wise id say come up and id give you a good deal. i agree with the few that a 12ga is deff a serious wepon. i have a pistol grip mossberg 500 that with 3" mag 00 buck will knock a basketball sized hole in what ever it hits. although i do keep it by my bead loaded, its not my '' GO TO '' gun for home protection. as i said before. you CAN NOT go wrong with a glock. its safe, kid safe, the most reliable handgun on the market. i have a few! this is my 23C its a compinsated version. this gun lives on my night stand. this lil jewl is a tarus millennium pt145. its a 10 shot .45 this is my truck gun. it never leaves the truck. its a hard thing to do to have a gun in reach but yet be kid safe. it is posible though. first thing, is education!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! educate the kid about the gun, you dont have to show them where its kept, ie night stand drawer etc. but the need to know what it is and to have ultimate respect for it. second, you dont have to keep a round in the chamber. just a full mag. my reasoning behind this, is no one WANTS to shoot someone. i hope that if the situation ever comes, the sound of me ''racking the slide'' will be enuff warning to ward off the theif or attacker. | |

| Tbone, figure out exactly what you want to do with it. Do you want to carry it? Home defense only? Keep it in the truck with you? Do you want to go out and shoot it often for fun or practice? You must consider it's weight and concealability if you are going to carry often. I pack heavy in the cold weather because I can conceal a bigger better piece with heavier clothing. In the summer with Tshirt and shorts, I carry my Kel-tec .380 because it's small, light, and easier to conceal. I have a few, and I can tell you that the badest gun with the most knockdown power is useless unless you are familiar with it, and can shoot it well. For home defense, I strongly reccomend the Judge over any shotgun. If you go through the house with a shotgun, the intruder has a good chance of grabbing that long gun and fighting you for it. A hangun is best for the home because it's harder for someone to take from you, and you don't need the longer range shot of a long gun. With the Judge, you can shoot .410, a small shotgun shell that will spread out into a pattern of multiple projectiles. That makes it almost impossilbe to miss your target. No matter how good you are at the range, how will you know that you will be that good when scared and in a life or death situation. For a carry gun, The Judge will suck due to it's heavy weight, and huge size. Plus, it's not made to be accurate beyond the distance of the truck cab or across the bedroom. Those are the places it's intended for, not out in the open. I could go on forever. Just tell us what all you will do with it, and we will point you in the direction. | |
