Since my last post I have made a contingency plan. I made a reservation for Friday night at the Hampton Inn in Elkins WV, which is about an hour north of is the resort. I can cancel the Hampton Inn reservation with no charge anytime up until 6:00 p.m. Friday night.

So as long as you (Thunter) and Hump are going regardless of the situation at Elk Springs Resort, I'll be there too. We just need to set a time and place (where I can safely and legally park my truck and trailer) to meet on Saturday morning in the event Elk Springs Resort is closed. (Hoping to see everyone else too, but Hump and Thunter know the area).

Ok some new info for the resort. Their website has been updated to say that due to severe storms they have no power and the resort will be closed until power is restored. I don't know when they put that up but I just noticed it today. They also give a new number to call. I called it and it was some pavement company and he gave another number to call, turns out it was the number the lodge has listed on their website. So I got a big run around.

If the resort never comes back online and some of you guys and Hump still wanna ride I will be there.

That notice wasn't there 2 hours ago.

Googly I would try Snowshoe Resort instead of Elkins. Snowshoe is much closer to Elk Springs and is one of those places you really should try to visit anyway. Their website says they will have full power restored today. I would say Snowshoe has generators anyway. I have no idea about their prices. Snowshoe is only 32 miles from Bergoo and I would guess about 20 miles from Elk Springs.

Thanks, Thunter! Excellent suggestions. I called Snowshoe and they have rooms, but if I make a reservation there I can't cancel at this point. Hesitant to make a reservation until I can talk to the people at Elk Springs - don't want to find myself in a situation where I end up paying for both places.

Yea I would wait until Thursday or Friday before making a reservation. If Elk Springs doesn't come back online by Friday I may do the same. We would have to trailer our machines to Bergoo but that better than nothing. Snowshoe is really nice anyway!!

I am out.... I was wanting to go but the forecast and the lack of rain has settled it for me. Hope those that go have a good time and bring back lots of stories and picts.

Ok I just talked to Hump on the phone and the power is back on in Bergoo. He doesn't know about the lodge yet. Will post more when I have new info.

Cool. Thanks. Got my fingers crossed (which makes loading up the truck today in preparation for the ride a bit cumbersome!)

My drop dead time is Thursday afternoon. I need to have power on at home and all the mess cleaned up before I can go to Bergoo and enjoy it. There are a bunch of bucket trucks and crews at the front of the subdivision now. I've also heard that transformers are now in short supply and that may extend the outage.

I'm so tired of hauling fuel and water. I'd rather be kicking back in Bergoo hauling beer out of the ice cooler or hauling ass on the trails.

Rick V called a couple days ago and said he wasn't coming. Said they had some kinda mine emergency due to the lack of power or somwething like that.

I called the new number (to the paving company) yesterday. After giving some explanation of our situation to the guy who answered the phone I was put into a voicemail box of the female half of the resort owners, but received no call back.

I called again this morning and found out that the male half of the owners of the resort also owned the paving company. I vociferously explained that we are hanging in limbo and that some communication back to me is required. I was told that the owner was expected in at around noon and that he would call me back. If he does, I'll post here with an update.

I've never actually testified before Congress. I was invited to once. After I told the Congressman who invited me what I would say in my testimony - that cutting the budget deficit is more important for the economy than any short-term pain that may arise from cutting the budget deficit - I was politely "un-invited".

Have met with Conressmen and occasionally the odd Senator (aren't they all "odd", though). Am occasionally asked for my opinion and advice on economic / budget matters, which as far as I can tell has always been resoundingly ignored.

Thanks for the compliment, Thunter, but this thread is starting to be way too much about me.

To the important stuff: I called that paving company again about 1/2 hour ago and was told the guy hasn't made it in yet. I reiterated my fervent desire (check that out ya'll, "fervent", I got a million of 'em) to speak to him.

Yea it almost seems like they don't want to speak with us. I have called both places multiple times and have emailed them also. Now they updated their website but they couldn't respond to my email. Doesn't make sense.

I agree. Why update the website with "If you have any questions, please call 304-453-6196 between 9:00a and 5:00p." if nobody who answers that number knows anything about the resort, and the people that do won't return any phone calls? I'm sure they've got a lot to deal with, but still... I've sent them e-mails, too. Someone is about to get crossed off my Christmas card list.

Yea I understand that they have problems but how hard is it to tell your customers what's going on. I figure if they could get online to update their website they could read my email. If they don't make it right with me when everything gets fixed I will stay at Snowshoe next time.
