| The 600 does not since it does not come with any maps other than some crude basic map. If you want to use it in your car you have to buy City Navigator for $80 which might have lifetime maps, I don't know. The 650T comes with a Topo map and I don't know if it has lifetime maps or not. | |

| I'm new to this forum and just discovered these maps. They are fantastic. Is there any way to display them on BaseCamp as an overlay to the base map? I'd really like to see the trails in relationship to roads, towns, etc. Thanks | |

| No, Garmin only allows one map to show at a time. But you can show the original gps tracks on top of any map you want. When you installed the map if you checked the box "Install original tracks" the were installed onto your computer. Just go back and reinstall and click "overwrite" when it ask. Take note of the location where the files are copied to. The default is "C:\Program Files (x86)\GPS Maps\WV ATV Trails 4.0\GPS Tracks". Copy the file "WV ATV Trails 4.0.gdb" to an easier location to get to like "My Documents\GPS Files". Use the Import function in Basecamp to get them into Basecamp. Now you click on them and select any map as a background. You can get a very good free Topo map here WV TOPO
Also, you can click on "View" at the top and select Google Earth and see them in Google Earth. Be sure and turn "points" off in the left pane under Mapsource/Tracks. This will get rid of all the little dots.

| Bob T,
When using your trail map on BaseCamp, what is the significance of the directional arrows on a particular track?
Thanks. | |

| Nothing, you can double click a track and in the properties select "invert" and change the direction. When I clean up the tracks and the intersections I will sometimes invert them to clean up a particular end. | |

| Dose anyone have a Montana 600 and tell me what I am doing wrong I have downloaded these maps onto mine, and when I choose a place to go to it will show a straight line going there, dose not follow trails. for example I was at Pinnacle Creek Campground and choose to go to Flag Rock and it showed a straight line going across mountain. So I tried some other places and it did the same.I really do not believe that it should work this way..If anyone can help me with information here or call me at 980-429-5388 it will gladly be appreciate..Thanks Ken. | |

| The ATV map is not routable, meaning that it will not route you along trails to your destination. There are two reasons for this, I use the free software to make the maps, routable software cost around $500. Second I use Garmin's various road types (eg: interstate, highway, exit ramp, secondary road, etc) to make the various colors and dashed trails. I change Garmin's standard color and patterns to mine in the software. For example I use railroad tracks to make the Magenta roads. If I were to make it routable it would be difficult to make a route while avoiding black and red trails. Way too much work. | |

| LB, if you asking what I think you are, on my nuvi 500 I have to use automobile mode not trail mode for the gps to follow tracks. I use Bob's tracks and I can stay right with them plus see roads and gas stations and such if I am using the car mode. Bob knows much more about this stuff than I do and the Montana is way advanced over the Nuvi, but that is how mine works. - LittleBit wrote:

| Below is a link to a Tutorial I made on how to make a Map. It list all of the software used. It may look intimidating at first but once you do it once it makes sense. I will be releasing an new one this summer with East Lynn and Ivy Branch on it along with some updates to HMBM, HMBW, and HMRH.

| I use Garmin Mapsource to edit my tracks (stops, backtracks, filter short segments, etc) I also use it to cut a whole days track into shorter trail sections and use it to colorize tracks. Also use it work on wpts.
I have a more complex program that allows me to improve track accuracy.

| thanks bobt, I have been using base camp to do my editing but wanted something with satellite image so I can drag the track to align better with the trail. also, im not mapping out roads so I wanted the satellite imagine so I could tell when I turned onto a gravel road and could delete those segments from my map. | |

| I rarely use Basecamp. Basecamp is a database driven program where Mapsource is a file driven program. In BC when you make a change it is made instantly under the same file name. In MS the changed aren't made till you save it. I save files with different names and dates so that I have the older ones to check against
Also editing (divide a track, combining tracks, etc) is much easier in MS. I go to www.gpsfiledepot.com and download the topo map for the area as a background map.
