| Well I have had 3 Sportsman's 500's and the 500 engine has always been their best motor because it was made by Fuji which is Japan and makers of Subaru from what I understood. So unless the 400 is also a Japan Fuji engine I would get the 500 and with that heavy of a machine I would get the biggest engine I could afford. | |

| Yea Bobby is spot on, that 500 motor is very good. I had a 2006 500 and loved it, at least until I traded for my RZR. | |

| The 400 or (455cc) is basically the same motor as the 500, but with a smaller bore and smaller carburation. I have had both and there is a noticeable power difference between the two. At least on the atv side of it there is...Don't know about the Rangers. They are both built by Fuji Industries. Just about all of the 4 stroke single cylinder Polaris engines, with the exception of the Prostar 570, are built by Fuji. They are very reliable, durable engines that will last forever as long as you take care of em. The 500 and 500HO was the cream of the crop back in the late 90's and early 2000's. I have over 4000 miles on my 500efi and have run the pee out of it and I swear I believe it runs stronger now than when I first bought it. I think you will be satisfied with either one. | |

| I know a guy who had a Rhino 660 that had endless problems with it (it was a lemon) and got rid of it and got a Ranger 400 and he absolutely loves it. He said it obviously does not have the low end grunt like the Rhino but he liked the overall package a lot better. | |

| I also had a friend in VA that had a 660 that was in the shop more than at his house and he never put more than 150 miles on it before replacing head gasket and radiator and water pump at different times that he had to pay out of pocket and finally sold it back to the dealer. That think was 1 clean 660 and nobody could figure out why it had all the issues but it too was a lemon. Last year he got a ranger 400 from WorldClass Powersports and it been flawless and he loves the way it handles and use it for hunting and rideing in the woods.
