| Unless something changes with my work situation, I won't be buying a new ride anytime soon. I just can't justify making a $200+ payment and only get to ride one day a month. So, I'm going to do some mods to the 450 to get some more power out of it over the winter. Done talked to James about it this week. We are thinking I may be able to get what I want out of it. I don't need rzr 800 power, but what I have now is lacking on the long pulls. Let the build begin. | |

| If it was me doing it over again , I would put my money in suspension not motor , a stock motor is very reliable and the 450 has a lot of grunt to it . If you look most everyone ditches the standard RZR for the S for one reason the suspension( same motor ) . I don't know what is avalible for the Rhino but that is were I would start , that and some awsome tires . Going fast half the time is just surviving the rocks and dips and stuff that can launch you in the air . I followed Daryl when he had his Rhino and there were many times that I would see is front arms from the rear , he stayed pretty close to going end over end when we would play but never notice him doing that in the RZR and he was much faster and less out of control . | |

| Punder, I think there's no way it could ever handle the rough stuff at the speeds a rzr s can without a +6 kit on it, and that would just be way to wide. I think it would be nice with the LSR mid travel on it, as it is just 3" wider per side. So expensive I won't consider it unless I end up happy with the power. Bobby D, I ran hard as I could that weekend so you guys with all the power wouldn't get bored. It don't do bad on flat, or up short climbs. I tried to avoid the long pulls so you guys wouldn't feel like you were stuck behind a log truck. | |

| Ok, I just installed a blue secondary spring, and it gets to the higher rpms when I floor it just a little quicker now. It don't lose as many rpms on a long hill like it did. I think it will help turn the tires coming out of a hole a little better. This seems to go with the sheave and weights real good. I'm ready for the fall ride. | |

| The great thing about the 450 is the gearing. It holds rpm's better in hill climbs than stock 660's. I remember a 4 seat 450 with full (stout) cage with the driver and Punder (after his Popo died- go figure) and that thing was a mountain goat. It was holding 25-30 mph going up hills just fine. I know the newer machines will best that and their owners may scoff, but there is nothing wrong with that on a hill climb. Now on the down side, it wouldn't do much better than that on the flats....maybe 35. But still, plenty fast to keep up in a group ride. | |

| I'm running 42-43 right now with 26s and the hot rod sheave, it was around 35 stock. When it was all stock with my 26s on, I couldn't even hit the rev limiter unless I was going downhill. I can't get 43 with a passenger though...yet.
Next will be a cdi, then a cam, air filter and exhaust work. Then I will deicde if I need to go back to a 25" tire or not. James hooked me up with the best clutch setup, and I still can't believe that it helped top end as much as it did without hurting the bottom at all.
What I need now is more power. The cdi should go good with the cam as it is a long duration cam that should make more power in the upper rpms.
I'm not expecting a whole lot, it's just a 450. I need a little more on the long hills.

| Hump...this may be a stupid question but....would it not be about the same amount of money to buy a used 660 or 700 engine and do a swap. Then sell the 450 engine. I'm sure it has been done....just a thought. You would have a lot more torque and hp....and about the same amount of money spent. I quit thinkin' now.....it makes my head hurt. | |

I quit thinkin' now.....it makes my head hurt. Is the grizzly motor the same as the rhino ? if so then that opne up a whole new avenue for 600 and 660 motors with the 450 gearing , now that woudl be a Mule .

I quit thinkin' now.....it makes my head hurt. I've done some research, and a 660 swap is more involved than just the engine. One motor mount has to be relocated on the frame, and some changes in wiring must be done. Plus, I hate to take a chance on a used engine anyway. Sounds like it would take some time to do it also, and time is something I don't have much of. I can get a cam, cdi, jet kit, air filter, and exhaust tip for less than $600. I'm not expecting 660 power, I just want a little more to hold me for a year or so til I'm ready to buy something else. Plus, I love messing with this stuff.

I have a dynatech cdi,K/N filter, jet kit,and the exhaust tip. I also have the world famous "JBS 450 SHEAVE". It does ok but on the long hills like going from Ashland to the Skyland...It's a turd!! It has never stopped pulling it's just very slow doing it. I followed RayRay up the stairsteps a month or so back. It made it but don't want to do it again. Are you going to have James do some port work?
