| I thought I found some info that HMT rangers or maybe police are giving tickets out on private land trails near the general Indian ridge area. I have friends that only ride outlaw trails in the area and I want to give them a heads up of the problem if it is a problem. I do not ride non HM trails my self but I understand the people that do. I do not want to stir up a bunch of posts of the outlaw vs HMT issue. If you know of this ticketing happening please let everyone know. Thanks in advance for your responses. | |

| First I have heard of it but that don't mean it's not happening but I ride a lot on all the outlaw trails around there. | |

| H/M has a connector that uses a public road to get from I/R to Pinnacle trail. When it first opened rangers were stopping people to check permits, etc. I have not heard of that happening recently. | |

| What would they be ticketing you for on the outlaw trails any way? What laws are you breaking? | |

| I think they can ticket you for entering the HM System at a non Trailhead. If they enforced that then Ashland, Hilltop, Wild Willy's, RCH, and many more place would be out of business. | |

| I dug a little deeper and found some blogs on trailsheaven. It looks like what they are talking about is the "Trestles" area. I would think it is railroad line trestles. Riding on active RR trestles could get you a fine if you get caught. Like anything else in America it isn't Illegal until you get caught, Right. | |

If caught on RR trestles by the RR police they will charge you with a felony so I would stay off of them period.

| Some people I know got caught on that bridge at the tunnels by rr security and were fined $1,000 each and charged with criminal trespassing. - Bobby D wrote:

| What about riding beside the rail road beside the tracks? Is that illegal? Also if you cross the RR bridge that's right beside the active tracks, is that illegal? |

Also if you cross the RR bridge that's right beside the active tracks, is that illegal? Technically the way I understand it even riding beside the RR tracks is trespassing since it's their property and could get you in trouble if they catch you but I think being on a trestle is really asking for it.

Ok I know that one trail we go a long ways along the rail road headed towards the bridge and wondered if anyone had been busted riding that. It looked like a ton of people ride it though. Lots of atv tracks on the ground |

| I know here you must cross the tracks at a legal crossing or they can write you a ticket. They do it all the time to snowmobiles. Even if the tracks are covered you must know where they are at. | |

| I'm with Bobby I know when I talked to a RR Detective in NC they told us that they own a right of way of 75' on each side of the tracks and can ticket you but that they procecute mainly if you are on the tressels and crossing the rail beds. | |

| I've seen a few of us cross the tracks at a random spot. I always worried about it. I have never seen a railroad police dude though |

| If they get after you, ride hard and fast, focus on the trail and don't look back. Tell yourself that you can outrun them, and don't overdrive your machine. You can do it!
I don't think they are going to say anything if you appear to be trying to keep distance from the tracks as you ride along side. Stay off the tracks and I don't think they will bother you.
