| I am headed up to WV this evening and am newer to the area. Which gives an all around more interesting ride?
Picked up a UTV recently so newer machine but have been riding for 20+ years or so. No winch so need to keep out of the deep stuff for this trip.
Any opinions appreciated.

| There is sooooo much to ride from the Bramwell/Ashland/Hilltop areas. Pocahontas, Indian Ridge, Pinnacle Creek and the connectors between the three.
Great food in Bramwell, 2 places downtown and a hotdog beside the gas stop out by the hwy.
Where ever you choose to ride, ride safe...MD

| If it was for one day I would do burning rock. But there isn't enough there to go multiple days without riding the same stuff.
Can't go wrong with either.

| Guys - I appreciate the input. In the end we ended up at Bramwell on Friday and Burning Rock on Saturday. Keep in mind I did not know where the hell I as going at either. I had BobT's fantastic maps to guide us. If you don't have these, get them! These made my 'during the ride' trip planning infinitely easier. As for my opinion of each place - Bramwell: Cool little downtown which was incredibly xTV friendly. Trails - (keep in mind I don't know the area or where I was going) after about 2.5 hours it felt like groundhog day over and over. Rock and more rock with little variance. Greens were almost a stand single carriage rock/dirt road. Blues were a trail and the few reds (no winch or spare that day) I attempted were more technical but with mainly larger rock avoidance on incline being the technical stuff. Couldn't find a nice open view to save my life but again, don't know where I'm going. Saw some interesting stuff on the trail - 3 full grown men riding 3 up on an ATV with no helmets going about mach 1. Number 2 and 3 were comical to watch since it looked like they were just about ready to fly off with each bump. Best thing I saw was two families, Father leading on an enduro of some sort with what looked like 3 little ducklings following closely on 2 stroke KX/CR80's. Mom and most likely sister were in the trail UTV. Saw this a few times and it reminded me of when I learned to ride with my father long ago. Great times! It should be obvious by now I need some guidance on trip planning. It is fantastic to have trail systems this large, just need to know where to look, I guess. Covered around 65 miles I think.
Burning Rock: Nice facility with easy parking. Great to see all the offer for off-road sports. When I was much younger I dabbled in motocross and was impressed by their track designs. We brought our own, but the rental machines looked well above average compared to what I have seen other places. Trails were great! Green were some rock road beds, but mostly a light trail feel. The greens leaving the trail head were fairly interesting. Blue was technical, and what seemed to me on par with a red in the Bramwell area. They were a little tight for the Maverick turning radius, but I expect that. Like we had found the previous day, several were big rock avoidance on incline/decline, however others were avoiding dropping a wheel in a trench wash that snaked down your path. Nothing more difficult attempted, no winch/spare and wife already nervous. Great variation in the overall trail experience, from an open area you could blast along under some high tension power, the 'enchanted forest' (as my wife called it) offering dense woods and bumpy ride over a trail surface that was mainly tree roots in denser woods, to over interesting and highly varying wide to narrow trails with many different surfaces. I was there from 2-7:30pm and judging by BobT's awesome maps, I could have ridden most of what I would be interested in with another six hours of ride time. It was great to see several families doing there thing at BR. This is very anecdotal, but it seemed people were following the guidelines a little more at BR than some of the craziness we saw the previous day. Covered around 50 miles I think.
Dust was hellacious at both. We were riding independently this day but we were still covered. Those riding in groups had about a tri-axle load of fine ground pulverized dust on them.
My ideal next trip- Find areas on the HM network that are similar to the BR trails, with some great views/scenery mixed in.
I have about 40 minutes of video from BR I may post. First time with the GoPro stuck to the windshield but it came out decent.

| The fact that a lot of the Pocahontas trail is made from a lot of land that was clear-cut of the timber, does give a very different perspective. The woods trails of the Indian Ridge and massive overlooks of the Pinnacle Creek trails seem to make a better day of riding.
Bobby is right about the Outlaw Trails. Maybe next time you will venture through Indian Ridge then the connector to Pinnacle Creek for lunch and gas in Mullens, then back on a sampling of the Outlaw Trails that will give you a much better perspective of the area...MD
