| Ok after WV Hot Rod Rhino has my attention and worried my stock air box is going to kill my RZR.......
I have always avoided it thinking more air got into the motor with those.......well where do you get the kits.....if you delete the factory air filter then how do you filter the air?
I guess its time for me a snorkel lesson! Thanks in advance everyone! |

| Just remember that when snorkeling,if your air box is still positioned in its regular location that snorkeling will do nothing for you if the air box leaks and lets water in that can atomize and get through your filter. This winter,i will be doing away with the air box being located down there in front of my rear tire. That location just doesn't make any common sense .Right now my airbox is snorkeled and so far i've been lucky with the box itself not letting water in.Silicone around the air box lid will help prevent it.But who wants to have to do that everytime? Not i.So i will be coming straight off the throttle body and running piping all the way up into my cab area where it is now, except there will be a filter inside my cab at the end of my snorkel piping.I may or may not have that filter inside an airbox.Having the airbox anywhere up high as opposed to where it is located from the factory is a huge plus, not only because of water easily covering up your airbox in its factory location, but last year i had a stick ride in the tread of my rear tire straight up into my airbox knocking offone of the retaining clips that hold the lid on.Granted that as long as your filter is on good, the dirt may not hurt your engine but if you didn't notice the lid was loose and went through a mudhole deep enough to cover up the box and the airbox lid should happen to be loose letting water come in,then you are screwed .I know that some people may think it is an extreme measure to take if you don't treat your ride like a boat to begin with, but those unsuspecting sticks, the airbox right in front of rear tire can create a problem your not aware of if you get into a situation where you have no choice but to take it deep for some reason or another. You can snorkel your ride 10 Ft. above your cab and it don't mean shit with a leaking airbox that will let water in.My 2008 RZR only has 2 retaining clips that hold that lid on.The third location is just a hinge. In the 2009 they upgraded the lid with 3 retaining clips and i've always figured that when they did that,it was because they knew there was a problem there.I didn't think it looked like enough when i very first bought mine. What you can't see happening to that airbox while your riding is what can catch ya off guard.Imagine running over a rock that flies up off the tire and straight into the airbox lid, jarring it enough to cause your lid seal to be compromised. You wouldn't know it until a short time after you had to go through that one bad hole to get home or get some help. You can buy most anything you need for snorkeling purposes as far as your piping is concerned at Lowes and other hardware stores. And there are all kinds of different aftermarket airboxes you can replace the stock one with. Right now all my snorkels(3) are done in 2"inch ABS (black)pipe. However when i redo the snorkel job on the engine intake,i will be increasing that size to compensate for the longer distance the filtered air has to travel to the throttle body. That will provide less air restriction .I also have all of my 1/4" vent tubes coming from front diff./rear diff./gas tank/x-mission/radiator/x-fer case, all snorkeled up into cab area.Keeps water from mudholes getting in those as well. They aren't all that long on factory and are located very low.I don't even take mine underwater, just trying to make it last a while. | |

| The only thing that worries me is water crossings. I havent went through anything as deep as the crossings on the spring ride yet. I need to pull the Rhino up beside the rzr to figure out if the rzr airbox would be under water in the deepest places I've had the Rhino. The owners manual says don't go above the floorboards. | |

| Well one thing is for sure...the air box on a rhino is located quite a bit higher than the airbox on the rzr,by far!Isn't the air box on your rhino underneath your hood? | |

The 700s are under the hood, on my 450 and the 660s, it's between the seats right on top the motor. But thanks to the factory doors, I have only had water about a foot deep in the floor a couple times. If I can keep moving, not much water gets through the doors.

| I have a Rhino 450 myself and I just priced a Snorkle Kit from my local dealer yesterday and the cost was out of my league at $356.00 and I've seen so many people make there own but my problem is there's not alot of room on top of my airbox so I'd like some info on how I can make my own....I'm not the smartest guy in the world but not the dumbest either. I was going to ask this question till I found this post. I'm very new to the SXS and still learning. I'd like to see some pics on this subject on how to set this up on my 450....... Thanks to all for the info..... | |

| Leave it stock, use the OEM paper air filters, check it often and change it when it gets dirty..........a recipe for long engine life.
The intake is near the top of the bed rails. Are you ever going to ride in water up to your nipples?

| well another thing about the snorkels is if you have ever taken your bed off theres a box where two of your pipes go and when i took that box out to snorkel mine it was full of dirt i guess what im trying to say is its a holding spot for mud dirt ex. and when you snorkel you take that box out and you get cleaner air | |

| I tried to snorkle my FO-FIDDY!!!!! Well I tried to snorkle the air box!!! Mine ran like !!! The only reason I wanted to snorkle mine was the noise. I have figured out now if the water/mud was over my knees that I need to turn around and go back to camp and have another BUD LIGHT!!! Seriously when I snorkled my air intake it made my Rhino fall on it's face! That small engine needs all the air it can get! It strugggled to get up to 30mph when I had a snorkel on it! | |

You may have needed to re-jet the carb , you may have been getting more air , did you look at the plug after you ran it , that would have told you lean or rich ......

| Yes I looked at the plug and it was rich! I figured it would just be alot easier to keep it out of the mud and water and leave it alone! I even opened the air box up to help it breath more! I am just speaking from what I have seen! I don't know about the EFI engines! But from what I have seen from the little 450's they need all the air they can get! | |

If it was running rich then it was getting to much air...
