| Just wanting to know what your opinion is on a little matter going on! My 12 year old son is trying to convince his mom to let him sell his 250 quad and buy a dirt bike!! His mom is totally against it because she thinks a dirt bike is to DANGEROUS!!! He has been riding quads since he was 5/6 years old!! He now rides my old Yamaha 350 Warrior!! My question is which do you think is more dangerous to ride,a dirt bike or a quad!!! Oh yeah I was looking to buy a Yamaha TTR 125L! Not a CR or YZ!!! | |

| they're both dangerous....so is going to the store in a car....let him have some fun on both...Its easier to get away from a motorcycle but it easier to wreck | |

| either can be dangerous, less likely to flip a ttr on top of himself than a quad. | |

| How tall is he? My son had that bike but out grown it pretty quick. He just turn 13 and is around 5'6. Now he has a KX100 and is kinda to big for it but I think when riding trails in WV that is what you want.
If you ride the HM trails, he wont be able to ride that quad on those trails.
I would rather my boy ride bikes than 4 wheelers but that is just me.
Let me know when you wanna ride and yall can see how the bikes do. | |

| I am hoping someone makes a youth 4wd SXS in a few yrs when my son is bigger. Like others had said both are dangerous, but so is a lot of things they will do. I have always believed that having a healthy respect for the machine you are using will keep you safer. However given my experiance the bike would be safer since he can get away from it. I would also think the bike would be easier to handle in difficult situations (weight). | |

| I got my son a Yamaha 125cc dirt bike a few years back (it's been a good little bike). IMHO, a 125cc dirt bike would be the safer alternative. He may be more likely to wipe out on the dirt bike, but I think he'd be less likely to be seriously injured when the inevitable spills happen. Lighter than a quad, easier to get away from, and when you see trouble coming but it's too late to totally avoid it, on a dirt bike you have the option of laying it over and substituting a minor spill for a major mishap. The preceeding assumes he is definitely wearing a helmet, in particular, and at the very least long pants and some sort of boots. Obviously, the more safety gear the better no matter which way you go. If he's NOT likely to be wearing a helmet, long pants, and boots (the things you need to lay a dirt bike over and usually emerge relatively unscathed) then the quad might be safer simply because the frequency of contact with the ground would probably be less on a quad. Another thing to consider: If your son is hellbent on getting a motorcycle, he eventually will, and it may be a street bike. It would probably be good for him to get some experience on a 125cc now, off-road, with you watching over him. | |
