| After 1 yr of owning a SXS I am going to go ahead and get an RZR. I will be selling my 2010 Ranger 400 (will post a ad this weekend). Depending on what I get for it will determine how soon and what I buy. ANyone looking for one let me know. I love my Ranger but am ready for something different. My goal is a RZR "S", but it's easy enough to modify a standard RZR. I am thinking used will be my plan as the wife and I made a commitment 2yrs ago to live debt free. Would anyone hesitate to buy an 08 RZR? I heard of some issues with the earlier models. Worst case the fall ride may be my maiden voyage with an RZR. | |

| I wasn't afraid of an '08 cause hours were low and extras were added (bumpers, 14" crusher wheels, top) for a low combined price. Went on to add wheel spacers, Bighorn tires, JBS shocks, exhaust, "S" flares and Super ATV springs to get near the "S" spec.s for a comparatively low cost. Doing it over again, I'd probably look for a good deal in an "S" trim. Still need to add seat belts, HID lights, winch, clutch kit, parking brake and sound system to be satisfied for the moment, IMHO. | |

Worst case the fall ride may be my maiden voyage with an RZR. I still have my 08. Just make sure it has the 09 throttle body boot. I added the 09 floor panel with the recessed gas pedal tray. My 08 still runs good, I'm thinking about making my 08 a extreme RZR crawler, adding a S kit or even wider and taller!

| Nothing wrong with the 08s. I bought mine a few months back with 25hrs & 250 miles on it. It's been great, although I can't leave anything alone for long lol. My next series of upgrades is to a "S" model suspension form SuperAtv.com |

| Got an 08 in March of 2010. Used to ride sportsman 800. Engine was burning alot of oil. So it was a good deal. Wanted a built engine anyways. First with an 08 change to 09 air box, they have one additional clip on the end (no dust let in) 135.00$ next the throttle body intake boot needs to be changed, the 08 is perforated, get an 09 boot. The 08 would not flex n would separate from intake or air box. Shave the tubes in your a-arms, takes the play out thus handles better longer bushing life. Also snorkel off the air box use TWO air filters dust gets in. Other aftermarket air boxes claim no dust don't waste your money they lie dust gets in n you've wasted money n have to rebuild or rering you're engine. Drill your ball joints put grease fittings in that prolongs ball joint life. If you can spare the expense go to hid head lights (kits @ about 40.00$ shipped). Change your tail/backup bulbs to led bulbs this will save the already taxed battery n stator. Get a bigger battery more cca, that will prolong starter they tend to fail alot, personally I think low voltage is the culprit to trashed starters more often than not. Lithium ferrous batteries are the future, 8lbs for a full size @ 360 cca. I have 2 optima red top full size n will soon be changing due to weight + lithium 7 to 10 life is expected under torture. The list goes on to what HRR n I have done engine (holz + suspension) to my rzr, depends on what u want u can make it run (popo,yamaha,can-am,etc) but finding best set up is not easy, change one thing then u have to change another. Bottom line, been building mine for a year n am not done yet, almost everything modified n still have less in it than a new one n is more fun n reliable n PAYED OFF, runs like no other in our gang I hope. | |

| Thanks for the tips. I am going to try for something with less than 500 miles. Hopefully an S. Depends on what I sell my Ranger for and if I geta raise or bonus this summer. As for the Ranger here is my thoughts on the selling price. To get a 2011 Identically equipped would cost: $8200.00 -$600.00 Dealer discount. (The most I have seen or been qouted. $7600.00 +$350.00 3000# winch. Synthetic line with wireless remote and in dash switch +$400.00 26" GBC tires on Black crusher rims. +$100.00 Amped Ipod stereo mounted to roof. +$100.00 2" Super Atv lift +$100.00 Trail Tech Speedo/tach/ water temp guage with trip computer. + $60.00 Homemade lexan windshield. + $40.00 Homemade Roof + $20.00 Bed mounted rear storage box. (can be removed easily) + $15.00 Rearview mirror + $15.00 Rear backup light $8800.00 - $75.00 Rear tire has a plug in it (doesn't leak, but this is cost of new tire) - $50.00 Small tear on bottom pass side seat. (cost to proffesionally fix) $8675.00 -$1675.00 for 87 hrs/487miles and scratches from trail riding. $7000.00 obo Thoughts? | |

Well now, maybe we should line up the old war wagon with your machine. I've held off on the Rhiny Roos and the Canned Hams but damn you've put the stake in the sand(mud, so to speak) for fellow PoPo riders.

| Well I made a mistake and called Performance East today. They beat my local dealers price on a new RZR and RZR S by enough to matter. He also gave me a price on a Commander 800xt, that seemed like a smoking deal when you cosider the acc. it comes with, I like the yellow, but I m pretty loyal to Polaris, but it sparked some debate in my head..... I am disappointed that the S no longer comes with Fox Shocks or the extended rollcage. I liked the looks of that. The price difference between the stock RZR and the S is about $1300. Given the changes they made in 2011, would you get the base RZR and build it with a lift and different tires and rims or get the S and enjoy the extra width without having to do anything right away? | |

| Get the S if you can, it's not just the width that make it what it is, the added suspension travel helps keep the tires on the ground and smooths out the bumps. If you get a regular rzr, get some wheels to widen it, and have James hook you up with some of those shocks. I almost got a red rzr instead of the S, because it was a good deal. But it's easier for me to make a slightly bigger payment than to try to spend alot to fix it up after buying it. | |

| I was going to get a used RZR, but for the price of one not all beat to hell I can add a few $$$ and get a new one. Getting an S may mean saving $$$ a few extra weeks, but seems worth it even with the changes. That damn 800xt Commander deal is still lurking in my mind though... I feel like I am thinking about cheating on the wife. If the Can Am wasnt 400#'s heavier I would probably consider it more. I have beat the hell out of my Polaris vehicles and they never left me on the trail so I am pretty sure Polaris will win my money in the end. | |

If money is an issue I wouldn't hesitate to buy a standard RZR. I've had one for 3 years now and i've yet to see a RZR-S go somewhere I couldn't follow. The ride is better with the S and they're more stable off camber but thats about it. You can make your RZR what you want it to be a little at a time. Just buy the machine that suites your needs best and don't worry about brand. Well unless it's a Canned Ham Sorry Tbone
