PostSubject: cargo to toy hauler conversion    April 24th 2012, 10:08 pm

Every since the spring ride I've been wanting an enclosed trailer to make a toy hauler...well yesterday that became reality. I got a 20' enclosed gooseneck trailer. So now I'm looking to you guys for guidance on the do's and don't s. any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Well guys a little over a year later and a new job I have been able to get started on my conversion. I have stripped the walls and beging to rebuild. I have bought 1 1/2" sealed insulation panels and have all my wiring and sockets. I have hoping to have the walls up here in a couple weeks. One question I do have is how are you guys mounting the beds to the walls so that they can fold up out of the way?

Most important is bracing in the wall to handle the weight , Neurmax or AJ "scould probably explain it better than me but where you plan to mount that bed you need to fill that void with wood and make the weight not pull in on the wall but go straight up and down . As for the bracing on the bed I did mine like a water bed with 3/4 standing on end and made it fold up into the base of the bed . Most of the bed was 3/4 board and 2x4 so this made it work out great to do that . Look under the link on mine in this thread Cookie hauler , one fo the pictures might help you see it ..

Punder, That's exactly what I was looking for. Now to decide if I'm gonna make a queen in the back or just two doubles.

Mine are Dorm sized twins ( longer than a childs twin bed and wider ) , we made the bed so that both dropped together and there was a flip over piece that connected them , then the two mattress could come together and make a KING size bed . I can use just one , or two seperate beds , or as a king .

These were made in High Point and are solid foam , but a college mattress is a standard size so its easier to find sheets .

Only advice I can give is for your roof. When my buddy cut a hole in his trailer roof for a a/c unit he didn't brace it with steel and it sagged really bad so if you are planning on doing one you will have to get someone to roll a arch into a piece of 1"x1" box steel and weld in braces for sure(as long as your roof has the slight arch in it like most). Electric baseboard heat is the easiest way to warm it up.
