| We left Clayton 9am friday morning with a 4,000lbs (empty), 21ft trailer, 2 Commanders and a 500HO PoPo in tow. The Diablosport programmer set to 85hp economy tune on the Duramax gave the ride a sporty feel that the truck usually has without pulling that weight. For those of you that live in Winston Salem.... Let's just say we spent way too much time in your city dealing with US52 detours. Arrived at Pocahontas ATV resort shortly after 2, unloaded and rode the outer loop so to speak of the Pocahontas trail system. Came back, built a fire, grilled some pork chops, drank some cold ones, and went to sleep. The next morning we covered 3 trail systems. Went all the way up to Pinnacle Creek and back for 91 miles! On the last leg about 15 miles from the resort the 500HO PoPo gave out of gas. Luckily I brought a 3.5 gallon flat pak. The Commanders, which were operated in low gear the entire time, had only lost 4 bars on the fuel gauge when we got back. That 10 gallon tank and EFI really comes in handy! The trails were great! The weather was mostly cloudy and about 46-50* both days. No dust and a surprising amount of mud! Sunday morning we woke to rain and the locals talking about a winter storm moving in . As soon as we hit the road, it started sleeting and by the time we got through the 2nd tunnel, we were greeted with heavy snow, covered roads, and multiple wrecks. I was kinda nervous pulling that load up and down those hills with snow on the road and visibility extremely limited. I engaged 4x4 and ran about 40-50 miles on the interstate. Mostly less than 50 mph but sometimes as fast as 70. My buddy assured me that no damage would be done to the 4x4 system and I hope he was right. It did make me feel better though. By the time we hit the NC line, all the precip turned to just rain and washed the atvs for us by the time we got home. I just wanted to share my experience with ya'll. We had a great time and are looking forward to going back sometime in May hopefully. SBB | |
