- Yeah they will now let us ride on all the blue trails but check out the NEW rules. This is pasted right from their website.
Hatfield & McCoy has gone away from allowing only specific brands/model of side by sides & UTV's on their trail system, to allowing any brand - as long as it meets certain specifications. See the information below from their web site:
SPECIAL SAFETY REQUIREMENTS FOR SIDE BY SIDE - UTILITY TYPE VEHICLE (UTV)
Side by side utility type vehicles operated upon the Hatfield McCoy Trail System shall be subject to all of the safety rules and regulations of the Authority and shall also be subject to the following safety rules specifically applying to side by side utility vehicles:
Follow all rules and regulations identified in UTV owner’s manual and rules and regulations listed below.
Utility Type Vehicles can only be operated on designated trails. Easiest Trails (Green) - Approved. More Difficult Trails (Blue) - Approved Most Difficult Trails (Black) - Not approved. Extreme Difficult Trails (Red Black) - Not approved.
Signage and Maps – Every intersection will be labeled with a sticker approving or disapproving each trail. Most difficult and extreme difficult trails will receive an 18x24 metal sign located at each intersection. This sign will have a UTV with a line through it and state NO SIDE BY SIDE/UTV’S ALLOWED. Violators subject to $100.00 fine and impoundment of machine.
Machine Requirements 1. Machines may not be self constructed or substantially modified from manufacturer’s specifications in the sole opinion of the Executive Director or his designee. 2. Units must be equipped with a steering wheel from the manufacturer. 3. Units must be equipped with ROPS (Roll-Over Protection System) from the manufacturer. 4. Machines must be equipped with manufacturer seat belts and must be in good working order. 5. Low pressure tires required – Max 20PSI at manufacturer’s recommended inflation. 6. No machines above 855cc or 61HP allowed.
UTV Specific Rules 1. The number of passengers carried on a side by side - utility type vehicle shall be limited by the number of manufacturer installed seat belts. 2. All participants must abide by all of the manufacturer’s requirements regarding the age and size of operators and passengers. In addition, regardless of the manufacturer’s requirements, all passengers under the age of 16 must be able to reach grab bars and be able to place both feet on the floorboard seated upright with their back against the seatback. All operators of side by side - utility type vehicles must be at least sixteen (16) years of age or older. 3. Any operator of a side by side - utility type vehicle must possess a valid driver’s license. 4. The driver and passengers of a side by side - utility type vehicle must: • Wear seat belts at all times; • Keep their hands, arms, feet, head and legs inside the vehicle at all times during operation; • Wear a DOT or Snell approved helmet; and • Wear eye protection at all times.
What about the Prowler 1000?? I don't mind the $50 one bit but when I can't ride all the trails and they threaten to take my bike if I ride the same trails the ATVs are allowed is BS. Why pay full price and not get to ride a third or forth of the trails because of rules that there are no reason for. What are they going to do pull a dyno around behind them to check bikes that sound too powerful? We should start a letter to sent them of our outrage.
Sorry but that really GRINDS MY GEARS!!!!! :112: :112: :112: :112: :112: :112: :112: :112: :112: :112: :112: :112: :112: :112:

| Yeah I first was it on atvwv but went to check on their site because I thought that there was no way they would make some rules like that. But I saw that I was wrong and clicked and pasted it to this site. Should have an MSD by this Wensday so at least I will be the fastest Rhino in the group. Like the old saying "you don't have to out run the bear you just have to out run your slowest friend"!! :113: Buy the way where is the spell check button at I am a horrible speller. | |

UTVs use to be only allowed on green trails so they are actually opening up more trails to UTVs

I have talked to some of the rangers when I was down there last and they said it was because the trails were not large enough or too narrow to fit down them. I told him that that should be part of the difficulty factor and be left up to the dues paying ATVer on weither or not he should take the trail. He said it wasn't his call and I told him I knew that and they were very very nice about everything and talked to us for 30 out on the trail where we met them. They did say though if they caught SXSs on the restricted trails they would fine them because HFM just got done spending a lot of money on the signs telling SXSs what trails they can and cannot be on. That was a trip on May 08. Either the impoundment is to scare people off from disobying or they have caught too many people doing and are starting to crack down on it. I think they should be happy that we pay the dues and not bother us if we're not doing anything thats normally wrong. The double standers are Bull

The rangers I spoke with in October 2008 said it was because the switchbacks were not wide enough for some of the UTVs + narrow trails

I don't think you would have a problem but you never know. If they use common sense they will see that the windshield is eye protection and the harnesses are superior to factory 3 points. I ride those trails with 5pt harnesses but then again I haven't seen a ranger LOL

That is correct they would be all over you for that unless it's a Ranger Crew made by the factory with a back seat I'm sure

| I figure if I don't have anyone in the back it shouldn't be an issue. I am sure it would be if I had someone back there. | |
