| I have a question.....
I was cleaning up my rzr today and noticed a big round circle or discoloration at the top of the belt housing. It did not melt or anything but you can tell some heat got to it at the top.
Last time I was running pretty hard through the water. Thats the only thing I did different. Is the rear end bent? Did the belt just get REAL hot?
Should I just go ahead and pull the belt off since it got that hot in there? I am trying to figure out what caused this. |

| Tbone , if you ride in High all the time there is a incredible amount of heat that is created cause the belt rides low in the Sheaves . When you have the chance ride in low and switch to high , this makes the belt ride high in the sheaves and its cooler , belt last longer . If I had to guess you did a lot of slow riding or crawling in High and cooked your cover . There is a lot of slippage going on to make that machine creap . Take the time to clean you sheaves when you take it apart ( no special tools the belt walk on and off . Be sure to wash the belt ( if it is new ) , wash the inside of the housing , and clean the sheaves ( scotch brite and wash with alchol ( rubbing ) , but you can drink the Rum/ Wiskey while you clean . Might want to make sure you belt exhaust is not blocked , and that the intake is also not blocked . If the cover its self is distorted and looks like it will touch the sheaves then replace it . Hope this helps ..... | |

| Thanks Punder! No it has not changed at all but you can tell that some heat got to a spot. Riding with all these guys, you about have to be in high all the time. A few times I switched to low to go up steep hills but with this group you always have to be in high! |

| That is true , try being in a 500 Ranger I'm flat footing most of the time . But the clutch system is amazing to watch working , with the cover off take the time to clear everthing out of the way and crank it up and rev it up , its pretty amazing how it works . The belt should work the full range of the sheaves in reving it up so its good to check as this can mean a weak primary spring , or impacted mudd behind the sheaves . There should be some black dust ( this is belt ) and there is a measure for the belt being in tollernce ( but don't remember it right off hand ) and there is a direction on the belt , you should be able to read it as you install it . Was the spot over the primary or secondary ? | |

| i will post a pic later on Drew. The plastic did not change at all....just can see a little heat discoloration. is there some special seal around the housing or do all you do is just take some bolts out and the cover comes off. |

| There are about 6-10 bolts holding it on , there is a seal that goes all around the cover and goes aginst a raised spot on the alum . What I do is clean the cover , then use just a small amount of Axle grease in the slot them place the seal in the grease to hold the seal ( and makes a better seal as the grease will repel water ) than use my finger to rub just a light amount on the top of the seal that goes to the alum ( belive me , you can basicly wipe the grease off just the fact the grease was there is enough) . This helps seal the housing from water better than just the rubber seal alone . I also do this on the rubber seal between the cover and the inlet and outlet tubes . When go to take it off the next time it will be a bit harder as the grease will make almost a glue type seal , but mine is usually very clean just belt dust . Just be carfull on to get grease inside on the belt or Sheaves .
These Vids will show you from start to finish what you have and what it all looks like , if you break it , Dustin at Carolina will just give that " why did you do that look " and hand you a bill when he is done fixing it . Dustin is pretty good at answering questions . Happy motoring .
