| Radios? Now your talking...lol. I work for county ambulance and do many installs. What frs channels are you using and what pl codes? My county truck has VHF and UHF radios in it, we have FRS channels 1 through 10 for our search and rescue team. I have 4 Motorola 1225s that I am installing in some of my buddies' bikes. I also know a radio dealer that I can check with on some used radios. 1225 Motorola 4 channel cost about $450 new without anteana or coax. I have 2 4-channel and 2 128-channel units. Also....don't forget FCC is listening....5 watts is the legal limit on FRS channels....I think you can go 8 on GRMS. We run 40 watt UHFs with 50 Watt boosters in our ambulances, get about 40 air miles out of those when talking to a base unit, but only 3 or 4 when talking truck to truck (not through a repeater). The 25 Watt radios will give you 2 to 3 miles in the mountains. Biggest advantage over handhelds is clarity (and you don't have to change batteries). I have a 2006 Polaris Ranger 6x6 for ATV Rescue at work. Built it myself (and 4 others so far). I own a fab and welding shop (send me your business....lol). I will add a video of the 6x6.

| check with Rick or one of them that knows for sure. But I belive it won,t make a difference on what we are all doing because we don't have enough metal to get a standard wave I also belive if you wind your extra cable up in a loose circle and tie it off out of the way you'll be ok | |

| Looks good Daryl. Punder, did Dick send you a cable end (pl-259)? If he did it is probabbly crimp on type, if you want to use it I have a crimper, we will just have to meet at wagon wheel for a ride and crimp it for you. don't worry about cable length, it won't make that big of a difference just roll up excess and stuff it somewhere. the 1/4 wave antenna is very broad banded, SWR should be pretty close. As far as soldering the end on it isn't hard, just make sure that when you are done check it with an ohm meter between outer barrel and center pin so that you don't have it shorted. That will fry the finals for sure. Oh don't use those cheap Radio shack screw on type ends, they are junk. | |

| He said Soldier on the phone , but will check the number you sent to see . I did see the post on the bracket for the anteana ( thanks for the heads up ) . I may take it to a Radio shop local to see if they can do it ( dont want fry it before I get to use it ) . Radio shack has gone way down , I used to enjoy looking thru , they don't carry anything anymore . Looks good Daryl , If I get my power cable next week I may try to get mine hooked up . | |

| Pushrod, alternator whine is caused by a ground loop. Explaining that gets pretty technical and kind of hard to write about. Most of the time this happens when the radio has an internal battery of some type that the device will run on without vehical power (cell phone for example)or even a small battery just to retain memory. Basically what it is the device gets confused. With DC current the electrons flow from + to -. The audio amplifier that drives the speaker uses power to run it, however when it tries to send the electrons back to the battery some of it will go to the little battery, causing an unbalanced flow which causes the whine. A device without an internal battery will also whine if it doesn't have a good design as in cheap CB's. The AM signal on CB's is even more susceptable to noise just buy the nature of an AM signal. If you get whine let me know I have plans on how to build a simple filter that will take it out, cost to build is about 10-15 bucks. Spark noise is a different animal but the filter will help that too. Hope I didn't confuse you. | |

| Rob,
I looked at all kinds of options and this was the best set up I could come up with. These are the same radios that you guys use in your cars and you can use the same radio that can be clipped to the belt but its big and bulky and not as powerful. If I were you I would find out who in your dept is in charge of the radios and go and talk to them. They may be able to hook you up ;) | |

| I plan on doing that Daryl....I was just thinking that if there was one available like the cobra CB in the link I provided ....it would be easier to "water proof" the "brains" of the unit. |
