| My 09 rzr has 3000 miles on it. I just got back from hatfields. Great weekend but my oil level was great when I started saturday morning. 60 miles into the trip I was a quart low and the rzr is not smoking or leaking anywhere. Checked the airbox took the skid plate off and looked it is going no where. Anyone have any ideas???? | |

| if you've got 3000 miles on it and are on your original set of rings, then yours has done better than most I've heard of. I'm changing my pistons out when it hits 2000 miles, whether it needs it or not. | |

| i got over 250 hours on it....i am hoping if it needs rebuild i can convince my dealer to get me the stuff to make it an h.o. like the "s" and i just pay the price difference...my dealer is pretty good for stuff like like....only issue i have had other then the normal wear and tare such as bearing and stuff was one starter....the air filter i clean it after every ride... and as a matter of fact i put a new one in it friday before leaveing to go ride....it has been going thru oil for a while but it has gotten a lot worse here lately used to be every few hundered miles it would need some... | |

| I would like to know what normally has to be replaced on a rebuild at these low miles. Are the valve guides and rings usually the only things wore, or is the whole bottom end usually trashed? Do they usually need bored out when the rings go? | |

| Personally I wish the whole motor is trashed( when I bought the rzr I also purchased an additional 4 years on the warrenty) I would recommend anyone that buys a rzr get the longest warranty you can. Mine has paid for itself just in wheel bearing, bushings, and one starter! Not to mention when the service manager at my one local shop did both drivers a-arms, sway bar, steering rack, and axle from me clipping a tree at about 45mph. Basically my point that additional 1200 for the extended warranty was worth every penny!!!! | |

| Refer yourself to the topic titled "RZR using oil" in this section of the forum. Top end should be all you have to do as mentioned earlier. | |

| I was going through oil on my 09 real bad and I started changing the oil after every ride. After about 6 changes it stoped using oil. I also use Lucas oil additive. Used less than 1/4 of a quart all weekend at the spring ride | |

I have been using a little oil, about a third of a quart every 100 miles or so. I used the Lucas additive one time and it almost quit using oil. I then had two different Polaris mechanics tell me not to use it. I've got 3500 miles on my RZR, and i'm hopeful she keeps on ticking. | |

| I got a friend of mine who contacted one of the engine guys over at HPD. He told him that the Polaris oil (0w40) is a terrible weight of oil to use for the Polaris 800 engines in this part of the country in the summer time. He said that they get a lot of motors with premature wear on the camshaft lobes due to use of the Polaris oil. He recommended Joe Gibbs racing oil and some kind oil made by AMSOil thats called Dominator. He said anything with a higher viscocity is better than the Polaris oil. I know back in the early 2000's when Polaris introduced the Sportsman 700twins and the 500H.O., that they had some issues with cam wear. I'm no oil or engine expert.Just going by what my buddy told me. RZR's are one of the funnest rides out there, but they have their share of shortcomings. | |
