| i have way to many friends with rzrs to have to let a can ham tow me back. and when ol tbone needs a tow he is SOL with me. i will give him a ride but the can ham will have to set on the side of the trail because its not worth the extra gas i would use to tow it back. |

| im no mechanic but even i can tell that aint right. i asked the dealer shop manager if he had many starter issues and he said no. i'm glad i spent the extra money for the 5 year warranty, not that it will do me any good if im 30 miles from my trailer when it craps out. | |

| Looks to me as these starters are not built like a frogs butt and are not water tight. | |

| T-bone it looks like the armature has rubed the stator kinda hard ! also that front needle bearing was shot ! the starters have a rubber gasket in the front and back and the nose has two rubber o rings | |

| Yea I was just thinking........I bet water is coming in through the front around the bearings and there's no way to stop that. |

| Last week I ordered 2 new starters. Moisture had gotten in and that starter was only one year old. Starters 109 for two with shipping. When u replace starter make sure that u clean area where starter goes in engine n use a little bearing grease around both black O-rings, also I put a small bead of silicone around starter where they connect (starter is 3 pieces bolted together ). Just my 2 cents worth. | |

| I wonder if most of the water is getting in them while spraying them off? Tbone's pics make it look like a person should just buy the starter, and not even mess with doing a rebuild. | |

| I got my starter from WV HOT ROD RHINO. Came in today. Will install this weekend!
Thanks James!
When I install this starter I am going to run some silicone around the gaps and see if it helps. Another thing I read on the net that causes these things to fail is turning it on and off all the time. After we are riding and come to a break I turn it off. If we are setting for a few min I turn it off because its so hot outside. I have always felt thats its best to turn it off to help save the motor. I think I am going to leave it running more often |

| I am going to take it and clean it up with brake clean. Try it and see how it cleans up. That thing looks horrible. |

| Tbone, you got me to thinking. I shut mine off all the time, over the least little thing. I got that voice in my head that says save gas shut it off. I think I will start letting it run during pee breaks and such, and only shut it down if I know I'm gonna set for at least 10 min or so. | |

| I hear ya on the starter problem, I went to TN to visit my mother and put together a ride for a group of guys one guy came down from Indiana on a new XP 900 and we got about 4 miles from the truck and it was storming really bad so we decided to stop and figure out what we should do so we decided to get out of the woods until the strom blew over and needless to say my Starter went out. I had the Polaris Dealer in Livingston TN look at it and he said the starter was GONE!!! So the new XP had to pull me back to the truck and my day was over!!!!!!!!! | |

| I was reading on the rzr forum a while back about someone's rzr not starting, bad starter. They said they drifted it down a hill while in gear and it started. They had a pretty good arguement about that not being possible, clutch etc. Someone should try that to see if it works. | |

I agree. I'm going to leave it running unless were stopping for more than 10 minutes. |
