Matewan is a great little town. Not just the massacre but also the flood and resulting floodgates. Lots of history there.

BY road it's a 1-1/2. Can be done on trial too! The only bad thing is there like 20 miles of rail road track riding.

If you go to Matewan, stay at the historical Matewan house. Pat, the owner will cook you up some good food, get you a good trail ride, wash your clothes, you get to watch the actual Matewan Massacre movie.

I have pictures of the wall but don't recall the dates. Pat, I'm not sure about. Both times I stayed at the Boar's nest but we stopped in at the B&B. He has/had a daughter living there. She was behind on the rent and he told her to go out and sell something............

Depends on how much time you've got to spend, and the weather.

Not sure who this was directed at but we hooked up with the fire chief of Matewan, he ran us into Kentucky.

Yes sir, there are tons of outlaw trails across the Tug Fork river! Or you can ride that boring H/M system.

We did at the time but not sure I would worry about having a guide now. I'm pretty much convinced that the entire WV, KY, VA area is covered in trails, just got to get out and start exploring. H/M only scratches the surface.

Here's something you may see in that area in the middle of no where. I saw 60+ free range/wild horses south of Matewan this summer.
Amarillo60h, thinking about changing rides.
