| Can you run a K and N air filter without having to add a CDI or a chip? I used to have a honda rincon efi and I tried changing out the stock filter with an aftermarket one and it ran like crap. | |

I have a uni filter in the stock location and a aftermarket small k&n filter on top of my 3" snorkel and I have never cleaned the uni filter...every time I check it.....it's clean....I clean the small k&n filter after every dusty ride.....if it is not dusty.....then I don't clean it....the answer is yes....if I'm running two filters....then you can run one filter...

and be sure to grease the lip of the filter to make a good seal. I went with Bush's setup, and it's doing me well so far. I've been on some really dusty rides, and the prefilter catches alot of stuff. I clean it, and beat very little fine dust out of the stock filter. No dust got past the filter. I keep a spare filter and outerwear in my box just in case water would get in the airbox or something. The Polaris filter is expensive, and it's paper, but from what I've seen it filters very well.

| I've ran Uni's on my 08 with no problems. Going to try bushes deal on the 2010. I get tired of cleaning the Uni. | |

| Thanks for the link Yamabeast! Looks like it just slides over the stock filter. I would imagine the stock filter will last a lot longer with the "outerwear" in place. | |

No, kn or uni = ruined motor, the reason is these are performance filters, the performance gain comes from letting more air thru, so they filter out much less crap than a factory filter. This is fine on a street machine but not in dirty dusty areas. |
