| While I'm taking the RZR half way apart might as well do a new clutch. Application: Trail riding & rock crawling, little mud, 27" tires, stock motor.
EPI seems to be the standard. Thoughts?
HD Belt?
If anyone has a clutch they want to get rid of let me know.
Thanks,
Joe |

| That was the first thing I did when I went to bigger wheels and tires. I don't have a lot of time on it but for the peace of mind it was worth it. | |

| Just my opinion, but if you're into rock crawling I wouldn't waste my money on a clutch kit. And, I'd probably stay with 25" tires and install a lift kit. Your goal should be lower speed performance with good ground clearance. Clutch kits and taller tires are kind of going the wrong way. | |

| tall tires help get over rocks. in the rocks ground clerance is a must. if your high centered with no wheels on the ground you are done.

6" lift with a long travel enough The obect is better bottom end torque. Larger tires roll up and over rocks better. Sometimes when up against a large rock or ledge it works the clutch hard so a better clutch is must. |

| HRR n I put a holz clutch kit with n S belt in mine 3 weeks ago. Engine braking is incredible. Had to do this because new holz engine was wearing out stock belt. I didn't believe in a clutch kit until I needed it. If u stay stock don't waste the money all u gain is braking. It helps to compensate if tire size is changed. Not just opinion but fact for I have the kit n it DOES make a difference with a hopped up motor. | |

www.dirtydawgperformance.net for all you clutching needs I'm thinking a clutch kit would make speed control in rock crawling difficult (running in low at higher rpm), especially down grade. My clutch kit gives excellent engine braking down to "crawl speed" then free wheels until you get engine speed back up. Also, imagine belt temps dragging tall tires, up gradient, over a rock field. Combine the two and I bet you'd hate it in the long run. Call Dale at DDP and ask him. I could be completely wrong but I'd spend my money on "long travel" suspension components and undercarriage protection. This discussion would be different without CVT drive.

| I would think u would want some lag or sluggishness to rock crawl (not sure haven't really done it) but with the clutch kit mine is almost too touchy, it will jerk a knot in your neck from 5mph to 15mph but was hitting the rev limiter constantly n stock belt was not holding up. I went with the holz because it complimented the engine BUT I had EPI in my sportsman with a fuel controller that did fine (made a significant difference) BUT BUT I've seen dirty dawg as a preference because if u call Dale he will give u the custom set up for your driving style. | |

| I do have the EPI kit since I went to bigger rims and tires. I was told that the stock belt and clutch don't last as long with larger rims and tires. Only rock crawling I have done was on the Rick Lilly ride and they were smooth as a baby's ----- well you know---- and there were in the middle of barker creek. It seems to me that the kit makes for smoother power transmission than the stock belt and clutch and a little better engine braking but I only had the stock set up for a very short time. My 1 cent. Not smart enough for two cents. | |

| mine has engine brake now that it didn't have the 2010 model didn't have hold back and for rock crawling or what ever it is smooth no jerkin or quick response mine is all stock except for the clutch all depends on clutch kit you get money well spent better than stock |

I have a DDP clutch kit and love it. My spec.s to Dale were a relatively stock motor, two people on board, tire and wheel size and that I wanted to go as fast as possible from turn-to-turn on timber, gas, coal haul roads. Unexpected benefit was great engine braking down to low speed. You know it works well when Rick Lilly is screaming in the passenger seat going down hill under throttle (to keep engine braking engaged).

| Sounds like what I need. I hate flying down hills with no braking at all unless I ride the brake pedal like a grandma. I rode Charlie's 2011 S and it was way different than my 2010. They must have changed something. | |

| I just tripped over 4000 miles on my 2009 Reg. RZR this weedend down at MudMuckers. I now hear a clicking noise from the primary clutch side at low speed at around 10 mph. About 15 to 20 I don't hear anything. The primary clutch is still stock. I am running a S belt with an older secondary clutch to get engine braking.
I'm going to take it apart and see what I need and call DDP.
Just more money.
Thanks for the info on this thread!

I keep mine in 4wd low.... on the trails and it has plenty of engine braking....

| EPI is a good clutch. You can never go wrong with a heavy duty belt also. |
