I had that problem turned out to be a broken ring and pinion. Put it in 2 wheel drive, chock the front tires, put it in neutral and jack the back end up. Now turn the tires by hand and see what you can hear and see. Hopefully it's just a cv, you should be able feel each one as you turn it and tell if it's a cv.

When your driving it pay attention to when you hear the noise. See if you hear mostly when turning right or left? Do you hear it when driving staright? If it starts popping while making a hard turn it probably is a CV.

I get the notorious "commander clunk" on take off but I also had this (this is my video to show my dealer)...

could it be a bearing of some sort? I have had a commander and now a maverick and never heard that.

Does not sound like a cv to me. After you run it can you check the temp of your hubs and see if one is running hot? Could be a bearing in the diff too. Have you checked your diff oil for any shavings?

That's how mine sounded when the cv joints went bad. Pretty consistent clunking while moving most notable when slowing down

I posted this to see if aj1000limted was hearing something similar. The dealer said everything was 'ok' and suspected dirt between the brake pad and the rotor. It does stop after riding for a few minutes. I'm not sure what it is. I haven't had a chance to put any hard wear and tear on it to see if something breaks but under normal riding it keeps on going.

If it is that then right when you first hear it then drag the brakes a little and see if it goes away. If it doesn't then it may be cv.

My brake made a horrible sound for about a week. Sounded like a grinding noise could be it. Didn't sound like a popping or crunching but my hearing isn't the greatest any more.

You don't have problems if you ride 300 or 400 miles a year

Listening to that video, that noise makes me think it's the ring gear eating the case. But, maybe it's a brake pad hanging up with crap in it.
