| took the advice from the sticky threads (thank you all for making it easy for people like me) and decided on the 4 speaker system from Pyle part # PLMRKT4A.
http://www.amazon.com/Pyle-PLMRKT4A-4-Channel-Waterproof-Amplified/dp/B003GSLDUY/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1372364805&sr=1-1&keywords=pyle+plmrkt4a
but i would like to have a head unit so looking though there site i think i will get part # PLMR18.
http://www.amazon.com/PYLE-PLMR18-FM-MPX-Tuning-Radio/dp/B001584Q9M/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1372364746&sr=8-1&keywords=pyle+plmr18
cheap enough. was willing to spend up to $200 but the total for both is $151.
now i know nothing of sound systems. i dont know what PPl, MP3, or any of the other abbreviations are, well i do know what an Ipod is but thats about it. i do like to listen to the radio when im down at the river fishing so i know i want the face unit. can it operate the Ipod? like will the volume control on the face unit control the ipod? does it have a place to put the ipod after hooking it up? i have seen some units have "docking" for the ipods. does this unit? is the unit going to sound ok? i dont need it real real loud but i do like the better sounding systems. i dont know what makes them sound good but i do like that they do. also i was told to spend the money on the speakers that is the best bang to your buck for sound. are there better speakers for a little more money? also i do want them water resistant. i like to play in the water and like to hose it out.
thanks to all.
also 6 of us are heading to coal creek on Labor day weekend. free beer to anyone that comes by.

| I went the opposite direction and decided to go small and portable so my wife can use it around the house. Have to figure out how to mount it in the wildcat. Puts out a decent sound for it's size. http://www.amazon.com/BeatBlock-Bluetooth-Rechargeable-Powerful-Bombproof/dp/B00A2XV0VI I down loaded a free mp3 player to my phone and it runs this off bluetooth, no wires to run. | |

| the speakers lack any bass at all but they are loud enough. I knocked one off with a tree limb so I am going to put two mini box speakers on it

| Mp3 player is a Ipod. Ipod is just a brand name of a mp3 player. Mp3 systems such as the Pyle, and polyplaner setups that most of us run have amps that have volume controls, and a port with cable to directly connect you mp3 player. No head unit needed. I think most of the pyle stuff consists of everything you need other than the mp3 player, speakers, and some sort of enclosure to mount everything. The mp3 setup is the best way to go. You don't have the cost of the head unit, or the problems that come with it for offroad use such as dust and skipping CDs everytime you hit a bump. The Mp3 stuff is marine grade so it's waterproof. I have the polyplanner mp3 kit for a boat that has I think 50w amp, 5 1/4 speakers, volume control, cable and port to hook up my Ipod. It was $100 for the kit. You have to have your own mp3 player and enclosure, or other way to mount your amp and speakers. Ask lots of questions before you start spending money. We are here to help. Get creative on the install, and try to keep the speakers up high so they will be louder. If you mount your speakers up in the roof, you don't really need to have marine grade speakers if you don't take the water to them. That will save you some $. | |
