| I have a Viper on mine and I love it. I have only used it a time or 2 and it does great. You can buy the whole kit with mounting bracket and everything on ebay under $200. If you going to use it a lot time and time again, I would suggest a good one like a warn. From what I read they hold up long term better. My viper is 2 years old now, and I have never had a problem with it yet | |

| Very good thread here, Many swear by Warn but they are very costly so it is good to hear from Viper, Venonm, and Gorilla owners too. 1/2 price is ok with me! | |

| I actually have a viper on my ranger, but I have never used it. I think from what I can tell it's pretty much the same thing as the venom. It sure looks pretty... :165: and it was easy to install. | |

| I just installed a Viper Max3500 on mine. Haven't had a chance to try it out much yet, but I know they stand behind their product. Alot of people over at Grizzlycentral.com have them, and have had good luck so far. You can buy a Viper from Ebay, or buy dirrect from the company. www.motoalliance.com | |

| You guys have good luck with the syn. rope vs. the steel cable? just wondering..I know we have started to switch from cable to a kevlar/nylon winch cable at work because it lays down when it breaks, saves a lot of accidents, just wondering how it holds up to the elements! | |

| I own a venom 4500 love same set up as a warn just a bigger motor and thicker cable then the warn. But when my cable goes bad I think I am going to switch over to synthetic. Do to the fact my cable is already kinked after about 15 uses. | |

+1 The way I looked at it was that if my $13000 rzr got stuck somewhere I would want the peace of mind that I have a winch that has a great reputation to pull my toy out. .... Although I have not heard anything negative about the cheaper winches. |

| I "prepurchased" my XT30 before Warn even made them available for a locked in price of $359.00. The cheapest place on the net that I could find at the time was Tweety's RV. I know that sounds odd but they have a complete Warn section. | |

Although I have not heard anything negative about the cheaper winches. [/color][/b] :141: Think about it. When you have to use it you or your buddy are in an SOL postion and you really need to have something you know you can count on. Everything breaks at some point but Warn makes my 16.5 pound truck winch that works great so a 4000 pound one should be no problem. Plus you are more likly to do something dumb if you think you have a winch to get you out and then what do you do if you "bargin" winch craps out. Its kinda like vise grips many makers make them but I have found only Vise Grips work the best. My new Snap-on vise grips can't hold a candle to my old wore out, rusted, rounded tooth Vise Grip brand vise grips. Sometimes you get what you pay for and it's just not worth going cheap on somethings.
I have been told and have no experience myself that the synthetic rope rots if not kept clean and that if wet and get below freezing the rope itself will freeze stiff. I'm not talking like a block of ice like I have seen on here from others but the rope itself will not flex and unspool.
My Warn 4.0ci works great the few times I have used it. $400 with mount.

| I have a Ramsey 3000 with the remote control on my Rhino. It was on there when I bought it. I used it for the first time in January to pull a buddy off a stump....same spot that Gunny has in his video from the WV March 13-15 ride noted as "nasty spot".....in the media/video section of the forum. It worked great. I like the Ramsey price point at about $100 bucks less than the Warn for a quality product. I also like the remote feature. Being that it is only the first time I have used it, it has still been through a bunch of creek crossings and mud holes. Seems it is ready to go when I need it.
At one point I was considering the less expensive Chinese copies but I have heard of several failures so I'm a little skeptical at this point. If I was going with one of those, I'd definitely step up the 4000 to 4500 for a SxS.
I have a 5 year old Warn 2.5 on my Grizzly. It is still working great. I wish I had gotten the 3.0 because of it having metal gears vs the plastic on 2.5 but no issues. Warn makes an excellent product.

| I have the Warn XT40 on my Ranger and the RT30 on my RZR. The XT40 with remote is by far my favorite winch I have ever used. The remote will spool you along with the speed you can pull out rope. I have not had to even use the free spool feature on the XT. | |

| Heck, I'm always nervous that synthetic rope is going to break....even though it has hardly been used. If I was buying it new, I would stick with steel cable.....but I'm a little old school....if it ain't broke, why fix it. | |

| :152: I just purchase a Venom off of E-Bay. I just can't see paying the big price for the bigger names if this is something that is not used just a few times a year. I have had a few of these on different bikes & they seem to work fine for me. | |
