| I just got off the phone with my sxs dealer and they just told me that my Streering box is not cover under the warnanty. I have been having a problem with turning the streering wheel. It starts out hard turning then it kinda breaks loose then it will get hard as hell to turn again. It only turns easy about a 1/4 of a turn then back to hard. Have any of u guys had this happen to your rhino? Also anyone know where I can get a new streering box for cheaper than $150. Thanks alot guys | |

| Thats BS, if you have the warranty the steering box should be covered. I would press them on it and ask why they say it is not. The warranty should cover everything except wear out parts (brake pads, belts, hoses etc) Or better yet take it to another dealer. | |

| Yeah that sounds like B.S. big time. Are you sure you wasn't at a polaris dealership? I don't know bout rhinos and how they are set up,but sometimes a u-joint inthe steering shaft can cause a similar problem.WVHOTRODRHINO might be of some help on that one.He has a Rhino. | |

| I will get the number of the waranty company. It is under the extended waranty so I will get the number and give them a piece of my mind. | |

| I hope its the Yamaha YES warranty, if it is then it should be covered. If its one the dealer just added on you may be screwed. Never buy a 3rd party warranty or insurance its almost always a scam and things will be "not covered" Either way I would start demanding they fix it or refund the $1200 you said you paid for it (which by the way is WAY to much) Not trying to rub salt in a wound just letting you know. | |

| Go down there and check the u joints in the steering like Sprinklerhead said. Those things are tiny, when you think about how hard you turn on the wheel sometimes when you are in a rut or whatever. | |

| WARRANTY should cover it --- I agree
Yea, I would become a thorn in Yamaha's side if not covered.

| well I have tried to get the warranty company to pay for this but that isnt happening. But with my buddie that works at my dealer he got me everything for his cost so that helps. So I was putting the streering box on and rembering what sprinklerhead said to check about the U-Joint I check them and one of them is bad so now I have to trade the streering box back in and get a streering shaft instead. Because you cant just get a U-joint to put in. You have to buy the whole thing. It cost about $70 bucks at my buddies cost. So now I have to wait till about Wed or Thrusday to get the part now. Thanks for all of your guys help on this. | |

| Looking at my past experiences with dealerships, I now buy with the idea that I have no warranty at all. | |

| When it comes to mechanics at dealerships,i'm ALWAYS a "Show me" why its bad kinda guy before accepting what they say may be wrong with something. In alot of ways, a dealership mechanic in these places are very similar to ones at auto dealerships. They are either trying to make a buck off of you whether you need to spend that buck or not, and alot are just too lazy to properly check out a driveability problem such as a drive shaft u-joint or steering in general. With my vehicles that i drive everyday, if i don't have the time to fix it myself and it is a driveability problem, i always take down my mileage so that i can tell if they actually drove it at all to check out my complaint. Most of the time, they do not. One thing is for sure......you cannot simply look at a steering box from the outside and tell if the internal workings are bad in it. And if your mechanic had started with the possible simple things along that steering line..starting with the steering wheel and working his way down, he would have found the u-joint first, or else he is just lying. He probably would have put a new box on and then called you later to say you had 2 problems....a bad u-joint as well, after the fact. Just remember, if you ever have any questions about mechanical problems, it may just be a good idea to run it by some of us on here, before taking it anywhere. We are family here and would never misguide you intentionally for we have nothing to gain from it. We all just wanna ride!!!!!!!!!!!Glad you found the REAL problem and saved yourself some money!! | |
