| This past Saturday my brother's RZR started a forest fire. At least we are pretty sure thats what started it. We were in a very isolated area at our camp near 5 Points, in Wetzel county WV. My brother had rode his RZR through the area where the fire started about 2 hours before we saw it. No one else was there or could have been without us knowing it and none of us smoke. We think that a leaf or something got up on the muffler and caught on fire then fell off. My brothers RZR is a 2008 and has no heat shield on it where the manifold and muffler come together. I have seen fire on his RZR in this spot several times over the last couple years. Late Saturday night when we were done helping stop the fire my brother had drove his RZR several miles when he got off and looked at this spot it was glowing cherry red. In the dark you could see just how hot it got. I don't know if the heat from this area has been discussed on here before but I was wondering if any of you have any idea of how to sheild or cool down this area? My brother had contacted Polaris 2 years ago about this problem and they gave him the run around. The 2009 model has an extra heat shield on this spot. In the end we were very lucky that we able to get it stopped as quick as we did. Only 5 acres or less were lost. It was very dry and fire trucks could not get to the fire so it was all fought by hand and backpack bladders of water. Hopefully we can get a fix for this problem and it won't happen again. My brother said the extra shield that is on the 2009 won't work on the 2008 model. So if any of you have any great ideas i'd love to hear them. You also may wanna check out your own RZR!!! | |

| Maybe he can find a used exhaust system off a newer one and put it on there. Alot of people are upgrading, so it shouldn't be to hard to find. Or you might try making a heatshield out of something and welding it on.
Sorry to hear your weekend went like that. Glad you got the fire out. | |

| I was warned not to use that as it would hold moisture and cause the exhaust to rust .... | |

| I would look into wraps also. There are kits that seal the wrap after it is installed, or like wallers said have it ceramic coated. | |

| I have been fighting the same problem the "y" pipe and next joint glows red ! I have replaced the fuel pump hoping that it was just running real lean and causing a lot of heat ! I also put a rzr s exhaust system on ( thanks wallers) and when I took my old one off it was cracked at the "y" pipe on bottom . does the machine backfire ? | |

| A lot of you saw my exhuast at the fall ride when I was backfiring so bad and commented on it glowing cherry red. After changing my fuel pump I can almost put my bare hand on the muffler after hours of riding. Check your fuel pressure and if it,s low install a new fuel pump and see if this helps | |
