| My transmission/gear box on my 2011 1000x went out. It was 3 months old and had 500 miles on it. The dealer wants $3300 to fix it and can am is refusing to cover it. They say that there was mud and water in the transmission and are blaming it on me. The breather for the transmision is under the cup holder near your elbow. The bike has never been in water that deep. Is there any other way for water to get in? They have admitted there was a blown seal in the transmission. Could water get in that way? Also I know the belt housing did not seal well on the bottom and leaked. Could water from there get in tranny? I have been fighting them for 6 weeks and finally offered to pay now and argue later. They then say they cant get a tranny even if i pay for the job because they are back ordered. The real crime is i bought the protection plus extended warranty. Any help would be appreciated! | I say your dealer sucks. A good dealer would find a way to cover it. Water will not get in the tranny from the belt housing. I'd ask to talk to the Can-am distrct rep or someone else. Note that if the Commander has been mudded they will know -- mud finds it ways in cavities. Oh -- I'd also get rid of that pic on your avatar. Makes you look like a hard core mudder. The XMr has taught Can-am that mud makes lots of repars... | |

| Mud.......hell it's an all terrain vehicle....damn straight your gonna get it muddy. I'm with Randy...kick that dealer to the curb. Now if they can show PROOF that you sank it really deep you may have a problem...BUT...a good dealer should still be able to get you covered. Keep us posted. | |

| I think the dealer let you down. If it was a good dealer they would take care of you and get it all done. I dont see how water would get into the tranny unless that seal is gone like you had said. When I was at performance east buying mine the Can Am rep was there and he was telling me about how serious they were to get these out there. I had been hearing on stuff like this they were covering it.....no questions asked. I am shocked they are giving you a hard time. I know they are making a decision based on what the dealer is telling them and it sounds like the dealer is throwing you under the bus. I hope it all works out for you! |

| I talked to can am legal today. They are supposed to let me know tomorow. I hate to sue anyone because I get enough drama fighting for my clients. However, I wont take this lying down and will file suit this week if they persist. I do like mudholes, but I have never had it even close to that deep. Further, I have never had it anywhere I havnt taken my old rhino. I was hard on that machine for 5 years and only ever replaced a belt ($85). I believe you guys are right I did not buy it from that dealer and they have been anti-coverage from the start. This is bull! But I will make the fall ride, bought the new rzr 900 xp this week! | |

| I've heard of many many stories like this from all makes. Seems all these companys say hell with you after they get your money, unless it's something cheap to fix. As much as one of these things cost, they should fix anything on it for that almost nothing 6 month warranty period. | |

| I think the issue is the dealer. it is all on how they present the claim to the parent company. i had a broken shock and was surprized my dealer covered it under warrenty, but, i buy alot of stuff from them for years. go get em Not Guilty. | |

| My rzr4 transmission went out 1 month after the 6 month warranty was up. My dealer went bat with polaris to get mine fixed. Others weren't at lucky as me. I feel for you and hope all works out for you. | |

| I never buy extended warrantys, but when i bought my RZR, the lead mechanic at the dealer said to buy the 5 year warrenty. he bought a polaris quad and said he got it even though he can do all the work himself, the parts cost so much that the extra money for the warrenty was worth it to him. so i bought it. | |

| Ok t-bone, here is the real scoop.I liked the commander ok and it had some good points. The interior and cockpit were more comfortable. The engine breaking was far superior to the xp. However, it has some real problems with overheating . Also it has excessive engine heat in the cockpit even when it is not overheating. They come standard with defective tie rods. The xp is rather plain inside by comparison. However, when it comes to performance there is no contest ! The xp is ungodly powerful and handles way better. In any type of off road race it will run circles around the can am! | |

However, when it comes to performance there is no contest ! The xp is ungodly powerful and handles way better. In any type of off road race it will run circles around the can am! I understand. I have never had any overheating problems AT ALL. I dont know a thing about the overheating deal. The tie rods were changed for 2012. Now they are A-ok. The heat in the cab doesnt phase me at all. I did heat tape that center piece with the cup holders. The drink did get a little hot. 15 dollars cured that problem. They all have their qwirks. The XP has a ton of problems as well. I have seen a bunch with the 4wd in the front blown out in the first ride. See some catch on fire on the net and stuff like that. Both are first model years and will have a few odds and ends to fix. The only reason the xp will outrun the 1000 commander is because it is 400 pounds lighter. Thats a big diff and will show in real life. On the top end they are the same. I like the XP. I also like the Commander. Two totally diff machines. Honestly I was looking at a new XP the other day at Performance East. I was thinking about selling my RZR and getting the big RZR to try out. Im still thinking about it. I do love my commander. It is the preferred machine for me. It can haul more....ride better......and hold more fuel. Plus I like the looks of it a little bit better than the RZR. Either way Wayne BOTH machines are awesome! Lets Ride! |
