Three Russell County Deputies Injured In Meth ArrestOfficers Say Shake and Bake Lab Was Spilled On Deputies By Tarah Taylor POSTED: 9:54 am EDT September 9, 2011 EmailPrintAAAText Size Abingdon Regional Jail Russell Co., VA -- Three Russell County deputies were sent to the hospital last night after receiving injuries during a meth lab bust.
Major Bill Watson says they arrested James David Castle. He's charged with manufacturing and possessing meth, as well as having the ingredients to make meth.
Watson says it was actually an employee at a local store that tipped them off. They told authorities Castle was there buying ingredients used to make meth.
Deputies were able to track him to his home in Shortt's Trailer Park on Wysor Valley Road near Honaker.
Here are the details as to how the deputies were injured. Watson says Castle denied a search of his home and while waiting on a warrant, he went inside and grabbed the shake and bake meth lab.
Watson says Castle then ran out of the house and the officers went after him. He says Castle shook up the bottle, opened it and spilled it on the officers as they wrestled him to the ground.
All three deputies were taken to the hospital, given breathing treatments and released.
Watson says they will have to replace all of their equipment.
Castle is in Abingdon's Regional Jail. Watson says they will meet with Commonwealth's Attorney Brian Patton today to discuss more charges against Castle involving the actions against the deputies. |

| Hopefully the department picks up the tab for the replacing of the officers equipment. These labs are becoming more and more frequent. Hope they will be ok and to think, some of the public they protect thinks they get paid too much. And they do it with less with budget cuts. | |

they get paid way to little and always got the same convicts taking up their time....if they cant stay out of trouble then lock them up and throw away the key and our officers would be alot safer too. | |

| Meth heads need shot as soon as they pull a stunt like that. It's sad that we live in a place where the criminal has more rights than the guys trying to make things safer for all of us. I hope they beat the shit out of him, but I'm sure they didn't or we would have heard about the law suit already. | |
