Up and down motion as the tire goes up the tire pushes out causing scrub.
If u had a can am u wouldn't have that problem.
Tbone is right, and to add to this.... The more your control arms are angled, the more your tires will have to slide outward on the trail as you suspension compresses. (scrub) This results in a firmer ride. The control arms on a stock machine don't have alot of angle, so the tire doesn't have to slide out as the shock cycles, that lets it ride good.
I watch way to much tv, and read to many magazines. I don't know, want to know, or remember about anything unless it's 4 wheel drive.

The more vertical a shock is mounted, the more effective it is. (stiffer) all of the lifts out there move the top mounting point out, making the shock more straight up and down. Just a few degrees makes a huge difference.
Seems like I've posted this somewhere before... or maybe I'm losing my mind? Anyway, I haven't got a lift yet because I'm afraid when I soften the springs/shocks enough to get my ride back, that I will be back near the ride height I have now.
Hump...the lift that I put on bolts to the top control arm...it actually puts more angle in the shocks in return makes it ride softer...that is why I went with this type of lift. I took it out yesturday and jumped it and abused it and it done real well.
Sounds good, maybe the added angle will offset the tire scrub, and make it ride good.

Rick got all my money today. I ordered aluminum skids, half windshield, and went ahead and got the lift kit for it too.
I will let you guys know how it rides, and what shock adjustments I make to keep a smooth ride. Might even take some measurements if I don't run out of beer.
Now I have to wait on

You don't have to remove the bed to put the lift on. The only problems I had was getting the front shocks bolted up but once I compressed the springs some, they went right in.

I can't wait to give it a try. I said you don't need to lift a S, but I was thinking it would be nice to make up for the ground clearance lost when a couple people get in it.

but it's easier and faster to work on with it out of the way.
It's pretty easy to do and let's you see a lot better to work.
Can be done in less then three minutes with the right tools.
Here's a YouTube video that helped us out when we wanted to wash out everything from underneath of the bed & motor.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Remove the bed in about 3 minutes. Don't follow the service manual instructions!! Much faster to remove the entire assembly in one.
Thanks for posting that video Wacker. I remembered seeing that one, and was gonna look it up again. I may take the bed off just to clean under it and check everything out under there. It's never been off, and I got over 2000 miles on it now.
I got the lift on, and I like it. Softened the shocks two clicks on the rear, and dropped the preload on the springs 1" in the front, and 1/2" in the rear. It rides great with no binding anywhere. I may go back up on the front springs just a little. It feels way different out on the trail and that's in a good way. You can tell it's higher off the ground, and it will still corner just like it always did. Very good mod for a S, should have done it long before now.
The only thing that got my attention on the install was the drivers front shock had to be compressed about 3/8" to get bolted up. With it jacked up off the floor, the axle made a little contact with the lower control arm. I went straight to a place to hang that tire in the air and spin it to see if anything felt/sounded weird, and everything seems to be good. Seems strange that there is something different on the 12's. If I were you I would keep it for the rear lift, and crank the preload on the front as much as you can stand. These things seem to have the saggy butt after a few miles.
rear binds up too. we installed the whole thing. jacked it up and you cant spin the tires. they are bound up solid.
im just gona crank the springs up a few more turns and roll with it for now.
