| is your air inlet restricted to the belt. if you cant find anything cutting it it has to be getting way to hot. i had a friends explode cause he had a snorkel on it and the cooler was blocking the air inlet and outlet | |

| No restrictions on airflow. Rzr is stock with no snorkels. | |

| Have you had the clutches off the machine before? If the alignment is off that belt doesn't stand a chance once it gets hot | |

| No...not until tonight. I took them off and cleaned evrything out and inspected them. You can see by the video that it looks true. I'm starting to agree with Killerskank...larger tires and the way I drive it...the stock rzr belt can't take it. The s belt looks a lot bigger and stronger. | |

| From what I see if looks good , but you have to start some where . It did look like it was riding high in the Primary and Secondary( so you are getting full lock) , but it does hesitate when you get on the throttle some before the primary is contacting . and when you get off the throttle it looks like the deflection might be off some ( where the belt looks like a wave ), but you said this is a old belt . I am not sure quite where to tell you to do Ray Ray . They are Cheap , not hard to replace , replace the spring in the Primary clutch while you have it apart( they can loose tension ) . Take the clutch with you when you go to get the spring and just ask the Mechanic to check it out and see if he sees any thing . There are seveal differnt stock springs and since you are running bigger tires a clutch kit would not hurt , but in my experience it takes away from top end and make it lauch too hard for my taste . | |

| i would say your belt is getting way to hot and that is whats breaking it, i would try putting a blower on it, i put one on mine and they do help. heat is what kills most belts | |

| I think that belt was a stock belt, but was the one that broke last a stock belt or aftermarket? I don't think anyone out there has a better aftermarket belt than the OEM, really for any manufacturer contrary to marketing claims. If it was aftermarket, make sure to go back with a new OEM. Scuff the sheave face with a scotch brite.
Running 27's, I'd want a clutch kit....at this point after all the crap I've run over the years, really I'd want to go back closer to a stock size tire. No more than 26's and I'd really look the weight spec over closely. I'd want a durable but reasonably weighted tire. That's why regular Bighorns are so hard to go away from - durable - not light weight, but reasonable.
If you are running in a lot of mud at CAW or other places often, either stop doing that or clutch it for sure. Also like someone else mentioned if you are riding mud - snorkel it. Make sure there are ZERO restriction anywhere in your snorkel and make bends as smooth as possible.
Hope you get it figured out soon!

| Tigar Rag, it was a stock oem belt...but not a S belt. There were no trace of mud. I have not even hit a mud hole since installing the last new belt. I'm gonna install a S belt and just take it a little easier on my RZR. I've gotta make it last me one more year. | |

| I would do a clutch kit and S belt with those tires and see what happens. I know you have done some slow hard climbs in that thing with those big tires as well as mud from the pics and video I've seen. May be worth trying. | |

| I always drove with taking care of my belt in mind. Never slipping it, but nailing the gas until I felt it engage, then let up on it to control wheel spin. I had it in some tough places but not much mud. From what I seen from test riding a regular rzr was that it turned way less rpms at any given speed than the S. The S was clutched for those 26 bighorns, and felt like it pulled harder than the standard model with the light cheap 25s. When I sold my S with 2500 miles on it, the belt still looked to be in like new condition.
I would get a clutch kit and see what happens.

| RayRay, I think the belt is the big thing. also I have several clutch kits for oversize tires that I can help you with.
guess what. just so happens I have one for 27"-28" tires and 2010 model
Just get with me. I have the pullers and the spring compressor tools.
not a problem, lets take a sat do it, get some din din and shoot some pool
then you going to be ripping at those 27" tires.
I got you, brother.
Say when ???? | |

Ok, I've also been told to take the new belt and wash it in soap and water (dishwashing detergent like Dawn) to get the manufacturing oils off before installing it. Make sure you dry it off too. You don't want it to slip right off the bat. Also, use low gear if you even have a question if you need it or not.....for mud, hill climbs, etc. - especially with the 27's. Just throwing out all I can think that I've learned over the years that may help you. Looks like a lot of good info in this thread. I'm sure you'll get it right.

| stock tires and an oem belt is the ticket! also look at getting the exhaust for the belt up out of harms way. after 3 belts in only a couple hundred miles on my 2012 model i got in june i was tired of working on it. the rear seals on the belt cover were letting water in, warranty fixed that but not the belt. was still having issues and i have never been in water over the rockers cause i was affraid to smoke another belt got the exhaust up into the cab about head high and havent had any more problems. i have put about 600 miles on it since. THATS 600 JIMBOB MILES!!! SO YOU KNOW ITS BEEN PUT TO THE TEST! | |

| That looks normal. Go to the S belt or look at some good aftermarket ones like Dayco. I think the tires are super heavy mixed with flooring it all the time in high at low speeds just gets the belts super hot.
I do think if you were riding in low for part of the day then the belt would of not given up. We were kinda slow at some points. I was in low for part of the day that day in order to protect my belt.
When I am riding and I feel I need low then I go to it. |
