| I ran across a post that I believe started on the Glamis Dune forum. A sand rail apparently flipped, leaking fuel all over the driver before being engulfed in flames. The driver suffered burns on his entire body and was airlifted out. He died from his injuries. I have only been an active member here for a few months and have only been on half a dozen rides, but in that time I have seen two SxSs on there sides. Nothing bad mind you, but still not on 4 wheels. In the rides I have been on, I have never run out of fuel and needed to use the 2Gs of fuel riding behind me! The drain holes in my bed would direct fuel onto my engine should my gas can leak. I just don't see a good reason to carry extra fuel but I can think of several reason not too!

| I carry extra. I have been on many 120+ mile days. On a rare occasion a gas station is not available. Kinda like the Pineville Marathon gas pumps were not working last weekend. I felt better with gas. | |

| Good point from everyone. I mostly carried at least 1 gallon for those just in case times. For all of the yrs. I have rode, I mostly did not need the extra, but have helped others. I have recently stopped carrying the extra in hopes to purchase a fuel pack due to the safety reason you pointed out. I still feel better having the extra for those just in case times. | |

| This may be something I have to look into a little more! I do know that however slim the chances are, becoming a human torch is not on my bucket list. I am going to look more into the fuel packs and see if they are safer or just a gas can in a fancy shape. I know the winter rides will be shorter rides where the gas in my Wildcat should be plenty. On longer summer rides I might not have much of a choice but to carry extra fuel. Either way, it's something we all need to be aware of and it's worth talking about. |

| The Kolpin Fuel packs seem to be the way to go if you are going to be carrying extra fuel. I am going to take a look at my racks and some of their mounting options and see if I can make something work for the longer rides. I see the benefits of having extra fuel for long rides and for assisting others but safety needs to come first. |

Other then seeing these packs on the internet I have never laid my hands on one. Are they built that much better then the standard gas cans? |

| Yes I have seen them and they are tough. I've seen one fly off a machine and it's still ok. Guy just put it back on his machine and keep going |

| I have had to use the gas once. The way the gauges are on the rzr's, I felt better with the extra fuel. Also have used it for others. Will continue to carry even though I'm driving a wildcat now. | |

| I carry a roto pax 4 gallon flat pack. I looked into the kolpins and every review I saw.... They leak. You can buy a different spout for them so they dont leak. The roto pax are more expensive but no leaks! I have never had to use mine but have helped others out. Just my two cents. | |

| I will start looking into the fuel packs available and go that route for the longer rides in the spring and summer. If Santa Clause does not hook me up at Xmas, Santa Ross will take care of it on the 26th! Santa Ross seems to know just what I need! |

| I have owned 2 kolpin fuel packs for 6 years and neither one has ever leaked. I guess when they start leaking I will look into the roto pax. | |

| Roto Pax are the way to go. I have had several Kolpins and had to chang the nozzle to a Home Depot nozzle that is no longer available to stop them from leaking. I lost one Kolpin in the parking lot of Vista Jeep in Silverhorne Colorado. The sun and altitude change ripped it apart at the seam. Was shooting a stream of gas 15 ft high...
The new regular gas cans available at Tractor Supply or Lowes are thick. I carry a 2.5 gal and feel ok with it.
I have a 4 gal Kolpin just sitting in my garage. | |

| Looking at the web sites it looks like Roto Pax are the way to go. Need to go look at my Wildcat now and figure out mounting options. |

Kinda what I was thinking but then I would have to do something with the back up camera that is currently there! I might be able to put the fuel pack forward enough so the camera could stay put. I love this stuff! |

| A lot of it depends on where i am riding and with who.....also if we plan to have a long ride or not....if i am with a large group i carry 5 gal. Just because i wont want to be that jacka$$ holding everyone up walking around trying to bumm gas.....i would rather help someone in a bind then be the one asking for help... thought about trying a metal jerry can in my rzr | |

| Metal seems like it would puncture or leak before plastic. Five gallons is a lot of gas to carry. |

| 5 gallons is a lot of gas to haul. 2 is all you need to carry and remember..that metal is extra weight to carry as well when plastic will stand up to the stress better.
So far the Kolphin is the best way to go as far as safely mounting and stress resistance. |
