| Planning a trip to Ashland ATV resort this weekend 8/13-8/15. My 12 year old son and I rode Indian Ridge trails 2 years ago on dirt bikes. We have added an RZR to the family so my wife (as first time rider) can join us and for Dad and Son to ride when we get tired of the bikes. My son and I hit most of the Indian Ridge trails 2 years ago, so we would like to try some different trails. We will be driving up from Winston Salem, NC area on Friday morning. Was hoping the Pinnacle creek connector would be open but it doesn't sound like it, so would you suggest we drive to the Pinnacle Creek trailhead ride for the later morning afternoon and then head to Ashland and then catch some Indian Ridge trails on Saturday/Sunday. Can we park at Ashland and get to Pinnacle Creek.
Coming from Winston Salem what is the best route and closest Pinnacle Creek trailhead.
If any WVSXS riders are around on Saturday and Sunday we would love to ride some of the outlaw trails as well, it will be my wifes first weekend of riding so we will be taking a liesurely pace.
We will be in staying in the Ashland Cottages. Blue Honda Ridgeline if anyone is around.
Thanks | |

| The connector trail is in we rode it last trip up but it was not marked yet so that won't help you. It's easy to get to the Pinnacle Creek trails from Ashland if you can get to the Stairsteps it's just 4 miles up the road through Crumpler from the campground by road.At the top of the Stairsteps just follow the gravel road down and around past Riders Paradise & go past the Wagon Wheel and then through the Pinnacle Creek Campground and then just stay straight and follow the creek down stream if you follow the creek down stream you will run into the Pinnacle Creek H/M trails. If you can't hook up with any of the members on here just stop and ask people on the way if you have a question as you should see groups along the creek trail stopped taking breaks and drinking Beer...lol Anyways just follow the creek down stream. | |

| upontheridge, your story sounds like mine!!! I even had a Ridgeline!! We will be at Ashland this weekend , cabin 45. Stop by and chat! I will be there with my 12 and 8 year old boys and my neighbor and his 12 year old boy. Kids will be on dirt bike, me on a RZR and neighbor on a 4 wheeler. We probably will just ride the Indian Ridge trail....neighbor's kid still new to riding dirt bikes and dont want to make his dad do all the work!! | |

| We will stop by. What bikes do your boys ride. My son has a Honda 100. I have a Honda 230. My son will enjoy having a couple other boys his age around. We are not to far from one another. We live just off Kapp Rd in Lake Hills. We enjoyed Indian Ridge trails, but did encounter quite a bit of mud. That is fun for a while but gets old on dirt bikes. | |

| We had a fun ride today. Hooked up with Steve K and his sons. We went in search of Pinnacle Creek Hatfield Trails but never found them. We got some directions to the Connector trail. It is suppossed to be across the road from end of Trail 19 and the Northfork Connector. Followed our nose up through some trails, turned right at the clorox bottle in the trees and right again at the budwieser box in the trees. Eventually came out at a Haul Rd turned right and then at the bottom of the valley turned right onto the trail that led us down to the Creek trail below Pinnacle Creek Campground. Rode the Creek trail until we came to a T in the trail. Bunch folks at the T said go right so we followed that trail to a gravel road. Went left to a three way intersection with gravel road and hardtop. Took the gravel road and as someone told us, keep making rights and you will end back up at Wagon Wheel which we did. Planning to look for the connector again near trail 19 tomorrow before we head back. | |

| If you come to the end of the creek crossings and find Tinys place take the small straight lane which should have a wire fence on both sides of it with the creek 100 feet on your left. keep going on that for a ways and then you will cross the creek I think two more times. the last crossing has a smal little sandy beach that some folks call Mouth of Soul. follow that trail and you are at T23 in less than a 1/2 mile. take it to the right and up the long hill to the hard road and the Mullens connector if you need gas or food. or at 23 take it to the left and have a bumpy but scenic ride along 23 to the rest of PC trails. | |

| We had another good ride today, despite being a bit eventful. We headed down to Trail 19 and the northfork connector. Took the gravel road across from the connector, stayed right at the first fork and then turned left, where the grain sack is in the tree. After the left turn, we passed a gas well with some sheds are on the right. Followed that trail, which was recently graded, up a couple switchbacks, staying straight with one right turn, following the blue tape until we came to the haul rode. Crossed the haul road and followed the trail down past the brick mine building until we came to a gravel road, went staight on the gravel road passing bridge and creek on the left. At the house on the right and fences on the left, we turned left on the trail between the fences and followed that for about 3 miles, coming to a Hatfield trail marker and Trail 97 sign. Continued passed that to the creek crossing, stopped and had lunch and then decided it was getting late and the elusive trail 23 was not to be found again. As we turned around, the rear tire on my bike blew out. Man was I glad, we had my my wife in the RZR support vehicle. That would have been a long 20 mile walk home as I am not sure my sons Honda 100 would have carried both of us. We loaded my Honda 230 onto the back of the RZR and followed our crumbs back to Ashland. I love exploring so this was a great weekend and another great ride. I have some pictures but haven't figured out how to post them. Thanks to all those that provided some directions. | |

| It sounds like you were almost to t23. The area where you lost the tire is real bumpy with sharp rocks. Anyhow you were heading the right way. | |

| Interesting looking at Google maps this morning and trying to figure out our routes. I guess if we would have turn left at the Creek Trail T, we would have come out at the same "fences", Tiny's place but from the oppposite direction, such that we would have turned right to go between the fences, where we turn left coming from the other direction. I guess I was suprised that HM would create a connector trail that would require a creek crossing, unless of course that is not the intended route of the connector between IR and PC. | |
