20mpg would be the bomb! Same here other than 5 mpg pulling the toyhauler (12,000lbs) & struggling on some of the hills in WV!!!! I will say that I have the wrong gearing in it for pulling though. I have the 38* something. I got the truck first & spec it for fuel mileage & then got the toyhauler....

| I used to have a 99 model f-250 super duty 7.3 litre. That is a very strong engine but the electrical system on them sucks. I bought it used and was constantly fixing electrical problems. Most noteably , i had to replace the fuel injector wiring harnesses on that thing over and over. The harness actually went into and through the valve cover gaskets. Seemed like the heat from the engine just killed the life of those tiny, tiny wires that made up the harness. I had the diablo computer that hooked up into the diagnostic connector and it coulsd also be used for pulling trouble codes. It came with 5 different programs that you could download into the E.C.U. And a couple of those programs would make it pretty much "RACE READY". The current truck i have is a 04 f-350 super duty with the 6.0 and i absolutely love it. I have the reading utility bed on it. This particular 6.0 has had any and all problems that were popular on them fixed before i got it and FORD actually put a certified program on the E.C.U. that is just awesome. I've blown away several fast cars with this truck and it will tow the world. Ford is my pick, always. But i think all are pretty nice. | |

| We had one that went through 7 clutches between 20,000 miles and 56,000 miles. We ended up putting an aftermarket clutch in it. It got very tiring waiting for ford to fix it. That truck other than that was indestructible! |

| Alot of clutching problems in some cases can be attributed to driver error . It took me forever to figure out why my father would go through so many clutches on a truck he had once. Then i went on a trip with him and noticed the whole time he was driving, his left foot was resting right on the clutch pedal. And when he would have to stop on a hill he was constantly pumping clutch and gas rolling back and forth. Killing the life of his clutch plate. Weak fingers on those clutch pressure plates will screw'em up pretty quick as well if you do alot of hauling. For alot of heavy hauling, your better off to really upgrade to a super heavy duty clutch package imo. | |

Only thing Banks makes thats worth having is their Inter-Cooler, and their Ram-Air Intake. I run their intake with super-scoop, but for programming, EFI Live is the way to go!!!!

I agree and way too expensvie on the Banks stuff. My new truck had it on it when I bought it used. Could tell a difference between 1 and 6. I knew they were a joke beforehand though. I used to see the guys pull up to the dyno with new Banks stuff on their trucks with their chests puffed out. They looked like beaten pups when they left. Always felt bad for those guys that got sucked in by the advertising. Banks is a marketing machine, but they don't build much power. And yes, hard parts are fine from them, but still pricey. EFI live is definitely the way to go for a Duramax.

| I have a friend here in Knoxville that does a ton on EFILive tuning on trucks around here.......
The highest HP you can have on a stock Allison is around 500HP..... Or you will slip the torque-converter. I know mine would slip on the 500hp tune before I built the tranny..
I tried a S&B Intake, tried a K&N.... I the air temperature on both of them actually went up compared to the stock one. The Banks Ram-Air with the superscoop is the best intake made...plain and simple. It does not draw hot air from under the hood like all the others, it doesen't have tight bends in the intake tube restricting flow, and it guarantees cool air flow.

i have been researching for an intake i think i might get the banks with the scoop. It looks like it would really pull cold air instead of hot air from under the hood. Also, it's not just about cool air, it's about getting pressurized air forced into the engine. When I installed the K&N, my air intake pressure actually dropped about 8%! Also, the intake temperature actually rose 11.8 degrees!!! Like I said, Banks might make some meideocre (spelling) tuning programs, their Intake with super-scoop is the best on the market. Trust me, I have tried the K&N, the S&B, and the aFe.....and none of them have even came close to the Banks. Trust me, I know how to get performance out of a Diesel truck, especially a Duramax!! Heads up Cummins guys..EFI Live is coming soon for the Cummins motors!!

| I dunno. Does yours run def? I was told cummins built a ton of motors before the EPA date to avoid it for a year until they get their system certified by the EPA.
If it has that def system, exhaust system could be tricky |

Be careful what you do to it. It can void your factory warranty. On a new truck that is a big deal. Too expensive of a truck to kill the warranty right off the bat. Also, don't believe what your read on the Magnusson Moss act, the manufacturers have been voiding warranties right and left for 5 years or more now.
