jbeane, I understand what you mean about "apples to oranges", but this is still a good video. The million dollar question is, was the 50" rzr ever bottomed out much comming through there? Even if it wasn't, the width difference is still a factor. But, if the rzr wasn't bottomed hard, then this is still a good video showing the advantages of the more agressive tread, and added tire height. You can tell by how much quicker you make it through, and with less effort.
Ok, now alot of these people are thinking..."hump goes around the bad mud, he is a sissy, what does he want with bigger tires?" The answer is, I'm looking at getting up and over rocks, downed trees, up and over water breaks made by dozers, stuff like that. Yeah, I could just jump it. But it feels good when you make it look easy. but I still want the abillity to put it down the good trails at a high rate of speed. Gets right back to that same old question we all have..what is the perfect do everything tire? And to add another...is the ill effects of a taller tire really worth it?

I have always loved Swamplites on my 4-wheelers. They grip great and side bite is very good too.

hump, there was a spot in it that he was bottomed out, but i dont think it was too bad. he never stopped moving but it did take alot of wheel spin.
i wish the orig video had worked, cause i left the sound up. you can hear mine literally just idle through it. i was in 4wd but it didnt hardly spin at all.
s102000 has been through both of those holes a few times, with his RZR S. its got a 2'' emp lift with the stock 26" bighorns. the deeper hole he did use some wheelspeed but it went through it alot easier than the bajacross tires.
its been proven a millon times athat the bighorns are a great all around tire.
if your not looking to go 2 foot deep in mud, why not buy the 27" big horns? they would measure almost a stall as these swamplites.
and ofcourse im talking about the orig big horns. i wouldnt put the 2.0's on my lawnmower

The only thing I don't like about my Bighorns is all the sliding sideways when I don't want them to. Maybe cutting a few grooves in them will help with that. I do love the wear and strength of the Bighorns. Oh, and the smooth ride too. I was a Bighorn man all the way until I saw Pitbulls in action.

hahaha it was deff ALOT shallower than normal. its usally a foot or so deeper. as well as that whole road. 98% of the road was dry, and its normally got some man eaters in it.
HUMP. check these out and see what you think. depending on what all sizes they release, these might be a big horn replacement. looks like they would have better side bite, and a lil deeper lug

Big G had swamplites n said he didn't care for them. I also had 27 inch SL tires. I now have two 3 sets of bighorns n wouldn't trade for the SL. BH tires r taller, less spinning when climbing. No one wanted to be following me because of all the crap the tires were throwing n I wasn't going anywhere, soft rubber they wear out fast, don't handle erg well on trail, only in deep mud do they come into their own. I sold complete set for $75, just to get rid of them. These r the only two styles Ive run on an rzr so far so I can't say anything about any other tires, except mud lites they aren't so great.

Yes they do. Very little difference, if any.
I thought there was nothing like Bighorns, and I couldn't understand why people didn't like them in the mud. But, my traction has went downhill lately, and I think it's because the edges are rounded off. Tread is still pretty deep, even with 2500 miles on them. My big gripe is that I can't turn the wheel and drive up out of a rut anywhere now. I may look at how they are wore, and rotate if it looks like that will help any. May even get out the tire groover, and see what happens. Tires cost so much, that I'm almost afraid to try something else. I would be sick if I got something that didn't go as good, was weak, or didn't wear very long. If I don't get Pitbulls next time, it will be due to the weight, and price. Other than that, I'm sold on the Pitbulls.

i was sold on the pit bulls as wel, but the price and weight is what killed it for me.
these swamp lites with the new ITP wheels cost me 836. thats less than 4 27.5 pitbull tires.
plus this wheel/tire combo only weighs a couple pounds more than the pitbull tire by its self lol
hump i think your onto something with the tire siper id say if ya cut some side grooves in them it would give a decent amount more side hilling traction.

I like that idea of grooving the Bighorns as well to reduce the lateral slip. Anyone ever grooved a tire? That would new to me. Special tool needed I guess?
I like that rack/cage on the 50" RZR! Cool Safari deal! Looks like it might make it a little top heavy, but I like it! Would like to know more about it.

Hump i have several buddies up state that did just what you mentioned about using a tire groover to cut the center of the lugs out to help the bite and help the lug clean out better to improve the B/H traction issue on rocks and in the mud with some good results. I watch several of my other friends with B/H get in the mud and see the tires not cleaning out and just sit there and spin in place and true they don't bury up but lose momentum and have to winch or get pulled out. Another issue with the sliding sideways is mentioned by all of them also until they grooved out the lugs and that seemed to help that issue. The tire i put on my RZR is the 27" Reptiles and they are doing great in both of those areas so far. Pros are they do pretty good with side bite like steering out of ruts and have great traction on rocks. The tires have less casing exposed than the M/L so that helps with punctures, cost i got mine with ITP 108 and 27s for 750. Cons are they run small to sizeas the 27 measured out at 26.3 inches and when in some mud holes they seem to clean out so fast they can bury you if you lose momentum! As everyone will mention there are lots of great tires and with good features and i just wanted to mention what I've experience with the REPTILES!

bought my groover at poskeys performance in parkersburg
had this for when i was racing quads.
think it was 50 or 60 bucks and it is pretty easy to use.
now the trick would be what design would you cut into your tires to help with the side traction. angles (you could have traction against the hill or going forward or straight parrallel to the rim (groove is going straight ahead so it would not have forward bite) so that you have a flat edge going against the hillside.

Ok, thanks Keith, I'll check them out next time I'm on that side of town.
I like the look of the Reptiles. Look like a mix between the swamp lite's and the STI Diamonds.
I might have to try the grooving thing. I'll have to cipher on that a bit longer.
