| as you are leaving ashland resort at the bottom of the hill at the big sign make a right onto the hard top. you will go through ashland and go right by the mine store and the H/M parking lot but stay on the road untill you come to a stop sign. make a right at the stop sign and go up the hill and that will take you to the stair steps and the guard rail jump as soon as the hardtop ends. |

| Dan, Follow Bush's directions and it's appx 4 miles to the Stairsteps. You can always find a neighbor at the Campground to point you in the right direction or hook up with someone that knows their way around.I wish I could be there to guide you around | |

| They are telling you right. There is a couple of ways to get there without any blacktop driving but too involved to try to explain online LOL
Have fun | |

| If you don't pay for a H&M permit don't be tempted to take the H&M trails that leave the campground to get to the trailhead behind the mine store. The last two times we have been there, a ranger has been parked on that trail checking coolers and permits! Take the black top down. | |

| I'm sure he was checking for beer but I have never seen a ranger on those trails since they have opened. I am surprised you have seen two LOL.
One other note, the campground staff is great including the manager BUT they have this old guy who drives around all night until everyone goes to bed. I have been there when he is very nice and I have been there when he is a total ASS. I am all for keeping noise down and keeping things in order but he can be a rude SOB if he wants to go to bed and you are still up, even when you aren't making noise! I thought Bobby was going to knock him on his ass one night LOL

The only issue we have had was in Welch and that was one time so it's better to be safe than sorry.I would not worry about the hard top any where but around Welch. Then again it may never be a problem again who knows time will tell

| I bought the slow moving vehicle triangle but it's in the storage box. I've talked to a guy that lives over in Welch and said there hasn't been any issue's in a couple months. | |
