Super Dave........I did want to show you this when considering brands....
Who else would sling their truck around just to show how strong it is. Ford is #1

I like that commercial. Pretty cool. My dodge tow hooks went to the frame but were not a closed loop. The closed loop definely adds stength...

Tow hooks on the front are very important if you are Tbone. How else are you gonna get pulled out?

Stick with the cummins. I got an 06 that gets up to 25 mpg in summer and 22 in winter. With my trailer and rzr I got 21 mpg when we went to WV last month. The guys with us had a duramax and a new powerstroke had to stop twice to fill up. I get 600 miles to a tank so I almost drove the whole trip without filling up. I do have a few mods though and turn out over 700hp.

The new cummins does not get that kind of mileage though

Tow hooks....really........never really thought about them when I bought my truck. I haven't used them yet....I did use the "closed hook" on my last truck....9 times the first year I had it. Yep....sure am glad they were strong enough to drag it up on the roll back.

My Cummins gets 19hwy and 14cty. I can drive to Busco Beach pulling a open trailer on less than a tank. My Brother has a Durramax and pulling the sme open trailer had to stop and refuel before getting to Busco. He had just put new M/T tire on and the trailer tires were under inflated so I believe that killed some of the fuel mileage.

Stock it doesnt but neither does anything else stock....open them up let them breathe throw some fuel and timing at her and o yea a big a$$ turbo.....like i have said few times over get rid of the tree hugger non sense and basically the 6.7 is a punched out 5.9....even when i run my h&s on the 120 horse setting there is hardly no black smoke if any....the turbo on the 6.7s seem to be pretty efficient. I used to be into the smoking out all the intersections and covering ppl in smoke that are riding your a$$. I think ppl like that( yea i was one) are part of what gives diesel owners a bad rep. I had an 06 duramax loved the truck....had all kinds of power until it came time to pull a big hill and it just didnt have the torque my 6.7 has both of them set up relatively the same.....both real close to same horsepower numbers too

Well yes you could do that to a new one but the EPA is on our butts. I think the fine per day without the emission stuff on an emission truck is 10,000 a day. Sonething like that. Nc keeps warning that they are going to start checkin us. I was going to pull all that stuff off but it isn't worth it.
That's why I recommend buying a truck and leaving it stock. The gassers are doing a lot better these days.
No diesel truck stock these days are in the high 20's. ford currently has the most fuel efficient stock diesel on the market.

Also when u buy a new diesel your paying in excess of 10 grand for all that emission stuff. It would suck to pull it all off as you paid for it.

Yep, the exhaust system on my LML is a $10,000 system. It's staying on the truck. I have to add DEF every 4 or 5 thousand miles, but that's not a big deal IMO. 397 HP & 765 lb.-ft. of torque is plenty, so I'm not seeing a need for aftermarket work.

I didnt do it so much for power but reliability, fuel economy, and i keep trucks for 3-400,000 miles and with all that stuff on there it cuts the motor life expectancy in nearly half

I haven't seen any proof that the advanced emissions equipment on the LMLs is hurting reliability. Not sure about dodge though.

well the new emissions are running heat through the motor. Also the DPF restricts the flow. Running heat through a hot motor is not good. It doesnt help the motor at all. I think with that being said people make the assumption that the motor does not last as long.
We havent run a truck long enough to see.
With being an oil company, the govt keeps an eye on us. The main reason is looking for dyed in our fuel tanks. The govt is really hyping up the fact that they are going to start looking for diesel to have their emission stuff on from factory. Either way the fine is way too big. Plus I cannot fathom paying all that money for something I am going to take off. I just leave our trucks alone and abide by the law.
I would love to take my new Ford diesel and take all that stuff off. I just dont want to violate the law anywhere. Plus Ford wont argue with us if there is a breakdown.

I think the emission standards are suppose to be even more strict come 2014 or 2015.

If somebody would come up with a gas engine with over 500 ft lbs. torque, then I believe they will have a true winner in the 3/4 ton truck arena. I'm really interested to see what Ford is gonna do with their "coyote" engines (5.0 & 6.2) in the near future. I'm hearing rumors of turbos on the 5.0, but what about the 6.2? Also GM has been pretty quiet in recent years on their 1500 series truck engines. The 5.3 is due an overhaul, even though it is a good solid engine. But its falling way behind Ford and Dodge in the HP wars in the 1/2 ton arena. I just gotta a feeling that government may have little something to do with that, since they are so hell bent on little economical "Green" cars.

I've weighed the pros n cons, here is what I concluded. I work for ABF a trucking company ( the LAST one still standing) , our company is suffering due to the bail outs. Several years ago YRC filed for bankruptcy, this in turn is causing ABF to pay an additional 65 million a year into the health n welfare fund for people that never worked for ABF. YRC employees r not to blame, that being said, YRC has cut their hourly rate by I think 20%, took a weeks vacation that they will never get back n stopped paying into the pension, freezing those that were or are about to retire. The government really needs to stay out of the private sector. Now with the new contract coming I don't think it is a smart decision to purchase anything (other than ammo). I grew into my current Cummings powered truck n think that is what I wiil probably end up with getting in the future but need to wait n see how January contract turns out. My truck is in the low 20s now on mileage thanks to the low sulfer content. Also correction YRC employees took a 15% cut not 20.

Full billet trans, triple disk converter, double laminated flexplate, Industrial Injection silver bullet 62 turbo, stage 3 injection pump, walbro 392 fuel pump, Smarty programmer stacked with banks 6 gun, 5in turbo back exhaust, intake/ filter.
thats most of the big stuff you know not including 1/2 fuel lines and the odds and ends. Ran a 12.92 @ 109 mph with 8000 lbs and 35in tires in 1/4 a couple years back. I have added a few things since then too.
