problem 2010 rzr s

friend of mine was noticing jerking and loss of power on his rzr followed by smoke. was wondering if anyone had any suggestions. he is currently checking his belt

Hey it was belt, already got it off ordered epi severe duty belt and got it on and tested it and it was the belt. Runs like new.

When you change a belt take the time to wash the primary and seconday and clean the sheaves , a belt that is failing will make a jerking feeling as it is failing and sometimes a loss of top end . I have always run just a Polaris belt also , I have seen EPi , dayton, and others fail premature .

Good info punder. Belts also need to be broke in properly. Not sure of after market belts but polaris does have a break-in instructions for their belts listed in the manual. Well at least the 2008 model does.

Yeah I cleaned the sheaves with a scotch pad and rubbed it down with alcohol after blowing out all the dust in clutches. I am going to have a stock belt as a spare.

Dale from DDP says the same. Scotch Brite the sheaves ,wash the new belt with liquid soap and water and Polaris is as good as it gets for belt endurance.

Yeah I washed the belt down good too, rode it easy in low gear for about a hour today going to do about 30 minutes each night this week and take it too brimstone if belt ain't broke in oh well. Lol

Its High gear at low speeds that does the most damage , the belt rides low in the sheaves causing lots of heat and wear ( even causing grooves in the sheaves ) . Best to run low in speeds under 20-25 over that run high, this causes the best to stay in the upper part of the sheaves and where it is the coolest , longer belt life and less wear and tear . I am bad to jump in and put it in High just cause I don't want to listen to it whine in low but it is that or just go over 20.

Thanks Punder, yeah I was just messing around house and had it in high cause I usually run it at about 60 up and down road then take it on a little hill that has couple steep spots, I think it was a combination of previous owner wearing belt down and me running in high On that hill. You think a 5 hour breaking on belt will do? Riding in low and around 20?

Just ride it , but don't use High to crawl over things like trees and rocks , Don't use the belt to hold you in place on a hill , If you are giving it gas and not moving then you are burning belt and sheaves ( at least think that way ) and it will last you a long time .
