Just found a great GPS App for Android. You can use Garmin maps on it. I suggest you download the manual and skim it at least. This appears to be the most powerful GPS App available and it is free. I did donate however.

If you read the manual you will see how flexible it is using various online and offline maps. The big advantage is that is can use a Garmin .img file. Not sure how the topo’s and other maps would show up but by my ATV Trails maps show up great. The tracks are all the same color and there are no dashed trails since these properties are not stored in the .img file.

You connect your phone to your PC and install the Garmin .img file in the folder oruxmaps/mapfiles/ (it may be on the phone or the SD card) I set mine up as oruxmaps/mapfiles/ATV Maps/”.img files go here”

Once installed you select the map by touching the Offline Maps button on the main screen.

For those of you who don't have a Garming GPSr this will work great I think. I have only played with it a little and it seems to be a very powerful App.

Ok Bob, Just where do you download the manuals? I just down loaded the app on my phone. Hope to figure it out.......

Most of us are not PC savy......I just recently got your maps to work on my Garmin........I do have Mapsource on the PC, but getting lost on the Garmin .img file thing.........

On the APP download site there was a link to his website. I have linked to the website Manual download page below. The developer is from Spain so you may have to click on English on the page.

The .img images are the actual maps that Garmin displays. Let me know if you have any more questions. There is a lot of complex stuff in the manual that you won't care about.
