| Several on here already have them and there was talk around the campfire that several more wanted them.
There may be more but I know Chris, Rick and Vince all had a very nice set up with the Kenwoods and Motorola's programed to run FRS or GMRS (don't remember which)
Vince has the name and number of a guy who can get them for $200 with a new mic and the quarterwave antenna. Rick said he will check with a buddy of his also.
I am sure this is like anything else, with an increase in volume the price may come down.
Who is interested in a group buy? Kevin, Drew, Clay and a few others mentioned they would like one too.
I am in who else? | |

| Yes from my understanding the radios have many channels that can be programmed to what you want. In this case you cna programm FRS / GRMS channels etc..
The key is a Kenwood dealer will have the software / cable that can program it

| Drew,
INDRZR gave me the Kenwood model # tk 860 in another thread so thats one model number I know will work.
Anyone know if these can be tuned to FRS/GMRS AND CB? That would be sweet but maybe I am asking too much LOL

| FRS/GMRS yes, CB no. The FRS/GMRS frequencies are UHF FM (in the 462-465 mhz range). CB is an AM signal in the 27 Mhz range. | |

| Neuromax ? most of us have hand held radios with ear phone jacks. It seems to me why not go to radio shack or something simlar an buy a remote speaker like what we use on the cb s Next ?if we have the plug end to our regular radios{music} that we use for md player or Ipod why not have cables made up to plug the FRS/GMS to the hook up and use our radio speakers that should give us plenty of volume going to quit thinking now to hard on a truck driver | |

| This would be great to have...depending on price. Maybe someone could set up a group buy on the garmin rino if these are too expensive. The garmin is nice because it has FRS , GMRS and also GPS! |

| Gary, from my experience the hand helds just are cumbersome. The helmet headsets never hold up too long. I like the idea of plugging it in to the stereo input but then I wouldn't have my music going down the trail but that is a very good thought!
Rob, the Garmins wouldn't work for what a lot of us are doing in trying to get away from the hand held units.
From what I saw on the trail with INDRZR, Thumper Vince and RhinoRider these units are great and blow away the hand helds. These radios put out anywhere from 25-60 watts.
To give you an idea ThumperVince was coming down the road from Crumpler and talking to Rhino Rider at KOA. No hand held can come close to touching that distance.

| I just got of phone with my buddy. He has 6 used radios right now they are different brands, 2 Kenwood tk-8180 25 watt, 2 Motorolo 1225's watt??? (forgot to ask), and 2 Vertex watt???. He said radio, programming, mount bracket, mic, 1/4 wave antenna, antenna mount, antenna cable set. $150
He also said that he might be getting some Kenwood's in on trade before to long, but they are higher end radios probably 175-200 just for radio programmed.
All of the radios above have alpha numeric displays, and are fairly late model stuff, most have came out of police crusiers.

| Rick thanks for the info. Can you give us his name and number? I think I want to hold out for one of the 35-40 watt ones but others may be interested. That seems like a very fair price for a turn key unit. I may put in a bid on a couple on ebay. | |

| yes they are ex police radios. My buddy is a Kenwood dealer, he took these in on trade. All of these radios are probably at most 3 yrs old, emergency services just recently changed to a trunk system and are putting new state of the art stuff in. | |

| It is a DTMF tone board. Some repeaters have access boards that the user has to enter an access code to use a repeater, some repeaters also have built in auto patch where the user could make phone calls, that is not used much anymore since the invention of cell phones. The controler of the repeater also could shut down the repeater via remote with those tones. The tones are identical to tones on a telephone. | |

| Some of you said that you want to hold out for a 40 watt rig. There is very little difference between a 25 watt rig and 40 for our purposes. Our SXS's: RZR, Rhino, Terex or what ever have very little metal surface for a ground plane that the signal leaving the antenna to bounce off of. The only way you could tell is if you had a service monitor to measure the micro volts in the air X miles away. So if you see a good deal on a 25 watt rig I'd go for it. | |
